I did a brief data dive into OU’s history of records by season and I drew a few conclusions:
1) This is far from the worst stretch in team history.
2) rough spots seemed to typically last 3 years.
3) That was usually followed by a national title within the next 3-5 years.
4) Recovering did not always require a coaching change.
Also - plenty of other major schools have experienced even worse stretches. Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, etc. No program is immune to a rough patch.
From the day BV took over - 2025 was pinpointed as the season OU would be competitive. No reason why this can’t still be true. Has it come about how it was anticipated, no. The potential is there.
