Herbie!!!

He's probably right.
As much as I had hoped to see the OU-Army game at West Point in late September, there's no way I'm going to a crowded arena....at age 71... during this pandemic which I don't see the world gaining complete control of until next year.
It's my hope that Trump abides by what his medical team says.

I personally believe we have once again made things out to be a lot worse than what it actually is. We have destroyed out economy. I finally got up the courage to look at my retirement accounts the other day and I was stunned. We can't continue this route for very much longer or its going to take forever to recover. I say give it a few more weeks then lets get back to work in the states where there isn't really that much of a problem. You can't treat Oklahoma like NYC or California.

Oklahoma is not being treated like NYC or California and the virus, not us, has destroyed our economy.
It would help if Trump let the medical team he has do the talking, especially as this pandemic is still peaking, and for him....and all of the politicians...to stop worrying about reelection or what the media says. That seems to be wishful thinking on my part since Washington DC is now in the control of politicians rather than statesmen.
My parent's generation lived through the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, then fought and won a world war.
Now we are being asked to stay 6' apart, wash our hands often and remain in our homes until this pandemic plays out. We should be brave and unselfish enough to do this.

Doesn't take being brave to stay away from other people. We aren't being treated like NYC? Practically every business in this state is either shut down or very limited. Our overreaction has caused many people to either lose their job and be down to part time at best. This has brought out how truly ignorant and gullible people can actually be. All you have to do is go to Wal Mart and look at the idiocy of people buying out toilet paper. We have absolutely no cases in my county and yet people are acting like ebola is knocking at the front door. We should be smart about going to large gatherings especially in big cities, wash our hands a lot, not go on cruises, etc. Even the main doctor on the task force said it was getting overblown.

My reference to being "brave" was sarcastic, as far as practicing "social distancing" goes.
There is no need to panic but we need to be careful and unselfish.
There are far more resources needed in NYC, New Orleans, California, Washington and elsewhere and while Oklahoma is much less affected, this particular virus is highly contagious, has no vaccine yet, is easily spread and is being met with inadequate resources (testing and ventilators).....and it's still peaking as Dr. Fauci said it would 3 weeks ago.
This is not an issue to be politicized and has nothing to do with political correctness.
We can't survive this pandemic unless we do it together and allow science to guide us through this
Which doctor on the Trump task force said it is getting overblown ?

I wonder what's the latest the NCAA will wait until they give the "all clear" for teams to start practicing? My guess is they could hold off as late as August 1 to give the teams roughly 21 practices to be ready to play by Labor Day Weekend. If we're still shut down after that date, the season may be over before it started.

Dr. Birx....basically said the media is scaring the public and that the current models don't line up with the doomsday scenarios being presented.

Depends on what they tell him. He can't keep america closed until next year. That just won't happen.

What state and county do you live in? Have you considered the lack of testing as the reason you have no positives in your County? The fact that some still do not get how big THIS is blows me away. It is not the flu just like it is not ebola, but to rag on citizens (or the stock market losses) on people who actually are recognizing the seriousness is troubling. You think what you want but I am not sure how you feel comfortable blaming those who are actually taking this seriously based on actual scientific numbers.

maybe you misunderstood so I'll help you. Never said this wasn't serious or that it shouldn't be taken seriously. I'm saying this isn't the end of the United States and people have acted, and continue to act, irrationally. I'm convinced that if this was a more serious disease that people would literally be shooting each other over a role of toilet paper. THATS troubling my friend

The way it won't happen is for people to abide by what medical science dictates RIGHT NOW.
We don't need to be playing politics or by looking for a scapegoat or by panicking or by being impatient. The month of April will be critical in the world putting this pandemic away.
We need Trump to stop sparring with the media and the Democrats who, predictably, have continued to spew their hatred and blame at such a critical time.....and for Trump to be 100% on the same page with medical science.

I can't begin to speculate on when football, or any sport, returns.
But lots of positive things must happen in the next 4 months for that to happen and we probably won't know anything until this virus peaks and starts starts to decline. April 30th will be very telling.

If the football season is canceled due to COVID-19 then we have a lot more to worry about than football. Does anyone talk about the flu in August or September? I personally think by July, COVID-19 will no longer be in the news. Hopefully it will not return like the flu, but if it does, there is this thing called "herd immunity" which means those who got the virus and overcame it will most likely be immune to a 2nd wave, if the virus doesn't mutate.

As for "letting the medical team do the talking", Trump has. They all talk daily. It's on the news 24/7. You sound like you do not approve of Trump's handling of this crisis, which puts you in the minority my friend.

As for the economy, I think it will be just fine now that this 6 trillion dollar stimulus page has passed. 2T from the gov't and 4T from the federal reserve. This will put money directly in peoples' pockets while allowing businesses to stay afloat and extend unemployment for 4 months, basically allowing people to continue getting 100% pay until this is over, and it will be over.

Once people start going back to work, the economy and stock market will once again begin to soar.

Day 13 of Trump's 15 day period.
2,238 US deaths
only 10, 251 more deaths to reach H1N1 deaths
only 21,962 more deaths to reach 2018-19 Flu deaths

Soonermade, I’m not a Trump hater but he has said things that his medical team doesn’t endorse, like a return to some degree of working by Easter.
I’ve liked what Trump’s done up until this year but he is impulsive, he is as usual concerned too much with criticism against him, and he sometimes goes astray from his medical team.
But Dr. Fauci just said he’s, in so many words, putting all the rhetoric aside to do what scientifically must be done.
My biggest beef is how political feuding has been a part of the fight against this pandemic. The media including Fox News and politicians are to blame for this.
And FWIW, I believe the Democrats have reached new lows in their 3-1/2 year tantrum and Biden and Sanders are not better options than Trump.

He, like any President has to weigh more than just what his Medical team is telling him. There is a balance that must occur. Naturally the medical advisors are going to tell him all things on the medical front, but his economic and military advisots must also continue to weigh in. This is exteremly important as well.

That's obvious.
And Trump needs to stay focused on all fronts....but medical concerns are at the top of the list, or should be.
He doesn't need to spar with Michigan governor Whitmer over medical aid because that governor is critical of him. This country is so divided now that we have to have feuds and pissing contests in the face of national emergencies.

Sooner or later one has to open up America even if it's via partial and easing in. I think Birk is sharp enough to understand this.
Dr. Brix said today that every American city "should assume it could have an outbreak equivalent to NYC" and she is calling upon every mayor to prepare now.
I think "she's sharp enough to understand this".

Well damn CT, if it's this obvious why are you concerned w/ (in your words) "Trump said things that his medical team doesn't endorse"? I mean he did shut down the entire nation and I'm sure some of his economic team didn't endorse this. Why doesn't this concern you? The point being that you're being critical of the bullshit like sparring matches but not of substance. Trump, Obama, hell even Kennedy is or was not going to shut down the nation for months. It isn't going to happen. The people will not tolerate it or accept. This country can't afford it either. There has to be a balance. There will be a balance too. I'm not smart enough to know the answer, but I am smart enough to know that Trump's sparring matches is not policy. It's personality. It's who is he. And furthermore, it's also what got him elected.

A few more months of nobody working and we won't have a country to go back to. I agree there needs to be a balance, but people and the media feed off of fear and drama. It doesn't take much to drive the herd these days

Well the nation is stopped and scared. Look at this thread. On top of it, we've given reason to people to not work. Fear. We're even paying them now to stay home out of fear. It won't be easy re-startaing America.

Trump's remarks clearly reveal he wants business as usual asap, but as this pandemic is increasing daily and until it's harnessed, it won't happen right away.
To say people won't tolerate or accept shutting things down is silly. There really isn't a choice at this time and it's not a panic but a precaution to abide by the doctors.
We need to be united in beating this virus and the blame game needs to stop as it serves no purpose. I believe we will know much more by the end of April and if we follow medical advise, we should see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Of course he wants business as usual. Why shouldn't he? I do too. Everyone I know does as well. There is absolutely nothing wrong w/ wanting America working. Nothing. And you blame game comment. Really? The only one pointing fingers at anyone in this thread has been you. I recognize that is deal sucks and is frustrating. And while it may not tomorrow, I do believe the people won't tolerate it. Do you realize that most local law enforcement agencies have basically layed down? Most are only writing tickets, if at. Few arrests unless they are felonies. Most DA aren't taking additional cases. Most Judges are setting bond as PRs. Social unrest will slowly creep into the conversation if America doesn't go to work. None of us want this. None of want to get sick as well. None of us want America to fall into a deep recession or even depression. A balance as to occur, and it will.

It will, a month from now.....maybe.
Saving lives right now supersedes the economy.
Stay well, WNAS.

CT hopefully you and all have an opportunity to escape the infection from New York/China
I'm in the center of Connecticut, 120 miles from Boston and 120 miles from NYC. My county, Middlesex, is relatively safe.
The hardest hit area of the state is from New Haven (33 miles south of me) and southward to Greenwich and on into NYC along the shoreline. Many people live in that area and commute into NYC. And it's a very affluent area.
I'm retired and only go out to walk my dog or drive 1/2 mile to the pharmacy for my meds.
There will be no traveling for me this year which really sucks, but at 71, I need to play it safe. No Maine, no Gettysburg, no Yankees games, no OU game at West Point.

WNAS, my reference to finger pointing had to do with the media and the Democrats. Not sure why you've taken this personally.
And there's no condemnation by me over Trump wanting to return to business as usual, but projections now point to a death toll of between 100,000-200,000 Americans before this pandemic is harnessed. I believe nothing else is more important than saving lives right now. This is not fear mongering, but simple truth, even though CNN and MSNBC are pimping panic and Trump blame every minute.
