A bit jaded? Isn't that a bit like asking if LuLu on Hee Haw was a bit overweight?
If anything, I'd think that number three in the polls is a lot better than it used to be. My junior year, we hadn't been third in the preseason in the previous decade. And only that high at the end of the season once in 14 years. Of course that was 1971, and we started a streak of five years where we had three losses and a tie to go with two national number two's, and two national titles.
In 71, I read one pre season magazine that had is sixth, and there wasn't much else in single digits. I loved that magazine. Read it over a dozen times. That was the GOTC season.
It really isn't how you start, but how you finish. But if the last poll has us in the top four, then that's really all that matters. Then one team will win two straight, and I kinda hope it's us. I promise not to be jaded.
