I mean how did the whole runner vs. receiver catch no catch idiotic rule even get thought up in the first place. Were a bunch of crazy NFL rule makers sitting around bored with nothing to do and someone said, "Guys, we made all the rule changes we can think of. We don't want people to think we have no purpose in life now that all the rule changes that can be made have been made. So what are we gonna do to keep our jobs? Oh I got it. Why don't we make it where you have to decide whether a dude is a receiver or a runner. Then, you know, if he's a runner we don't change anything. BUTTTTT, if he's a RECEIVER, oooh this is gonna be good, we're gonna piss everybody off by saying it doesn't matter if the ball crosses the goal line or not before the receiver loses possession. It's gonna be awesome. People are gonna go crazy cuz NOBODY is gonna be able to decide whether it's a touchdown or not. And then, here's the BEST part. Once we get everybody pissed off then we'll have to make another rule to put it back where it makes sense again. That will give us even more job security. If we keep making stupid little rule changes we'll remain relevant FOREVER!" If the ball crosses the goal line let's just call it good and go to the next play. Simple.
