I see where Grinch will interview for the Tech job. He should be focusing on his Speed D instead of interviewing for a job. IMO Tech will always be a Spread team that will look for an offensive-minded head coach. Art Briles to tech makes more sense.

Tech will want and needs someone that has Texas connections. Being a defensive coach with no Texas background is probably going to work against him.

The Speed D went kaput. This was expected to be an attack defense creating turnovers in bunches. What really has happened is D players over running plays...weak arm tackles...free styling. This the majority of the time from veteran players. They failed to step up to the Green Wave and Jayhawks... We went from being in the 20’s last year to 65. Pretty serious drop in total defense.

Come on. It’s not the scheme. It’s coaching and players that make a defense look good or bad.

Whoa Bama, I love you, but KC is spot on. This year's defense took a step back, and I do not care much about injuries. Turnovers and speed is what Grinch was brought in for: last year he produced, and this year BIG regression. Further if it's players, they recruited them, and if it is coaches...well they are coaches. Frankly in the 3rd year I expected a more fortified defense regardless of injuries.

OU has two corners from last year that are starting in the NFL this year, plus the defensive lineman whose name I've already forgotten. This year, they've had a string of injuries that have forced the talented, but green reserves into the fire. I think we saw last week what a difference it makes to get some experienced, talented guys back into the lineup. If they can stay healthy, I expect the defensive performance to be better the rest of the way.

As for Grinch, I think he's getting a courtesy interview. He's not ready, but even if he was, he'd be a terrible fit at Taco Tech.

Soldier, I’m really saying exactly what you are. Good coaching and good players can defend with a number of defensive formations. We’ve had injuries but I just don’t see Grinch excelling. We’ve definitely taken a step backwards this season. But having the defense at near full capacity should improve the defense going forward. If not, Grinch will receive a lot of criticism.

Sounds good...is it time for the first white Russian (a/k/a Caucasian) of the day

Makes me wonder how OSU’s defense got so much better from last year? That & they have had a lot of injuries as well. What is the difference?

Could the loss of Perkins, Brown, Norwood and Stokes been that much of a loss from 2020 ? I can't imagine a handful of players could turn what was a decent second half of the season team into a defense with tackling and coverage skills of a bunch of Girl Scouts.
With a week off, it will be very interesting to see if Grinch can fix this defense. For me, his future should be very much on the line this month.

Agree 100% CT. I do not care about injuries or losing players to the NFL. This is his 3rd year and it is OU winning conference championship after championship. The players should be there. I am still holding out hope the bye helps things get squared away but we will see. Hope you are doing well. Beautiful weekend here in DFW, great day for homemade chili and football watching...have a good one.

You have your day under control !
Nice weather here, clear with a high of 52 degrees.
And a dinner tonight the product of my wife's great cooking while watching Texas vs Iowa State....after lots of football during the day.

Riley needs to take a page out of Saban book and bring in Gary Patterson.

Grinch is impressive when he talks, I can see him as a HC. He has that, it factor.

I think Redmond being out has been the biggest issue. Winfrey and Thomas are good but not great. Redmond is a difference maker and opens up plays for the other guys. It ALL starts upfront. Redmond is a better football player then Perkins but Perkins is a better athlete.

The defense won our games, early in the season. Getting healthy and we'll see a big difference. Plus, they Finally figured out Key Lawrence is the best Tennessee transfer

What a stupid red-zone sequence by Purdue. They throw three passes, chew up all of 20 seconds of clock time, and kick a field goal. They just gave Michigan State 3 timeouts. What a bunch of maroons.

Good post. I'm still wondering how it took 9 games to figure that out when you see them in practice everyday? We dang near lost about 4 games with shaky qb and db play. The evaluation process is kind of questionable and subjective this year imo.
