The college football landscape is changing. OU is now a name brand again and just needs to keep the momentum going. Stoops transitioning from primarily a regional recruiting focus to a national recruiting focus is paying off now. Riley has the scheme and personality that is attractive to elite players. The 5* pipeline should become further established as we keep winning.
However, it’s time to take the next step with our defense. We did look a lot better yesterday, but I’m still not convinced we have the right pieces in place. The talent is obviously getting better, but our defense needs to be as lethal as the offense. It just seems we lack the aggressive, reckless schemes that true elite defenses possess. Mike Stoops and the weak conference arguments aside, it’s time to stock up on the 5* LBs and DLs and build some depth. If you have the 5* DLs and LBs then you can play the schemes we have. Not taking anything way from the guys we have on the field, we have some definite talent (Bookie is a star), but we need these guys at EVERY position.
I see no reason why those kids aren’t on our doorstep. Texas continues to implode. It’s a sh*t show in Austin. Don’t know why any elite talent would even consider going there, regardless of position. If A&M has a good year, they will assume the captain’s seat in Texas as the premier program. It appears that is already occurring. Time to cherry pick Texas before Jimbo gets his feet planted and continue recruiting on a national level. It’s looking great for OU, but we have to keep upgrading the D to get us Number 8.
