Well gentlemen. As we all know that tomorrow is the big day. Full of updates every 20 minutes (assuming Rivals doesn't crash), full of meltdowns followed by celebratory .gifs, and full of coaches interviews. But the day after, begins our offseason. What lies ahead of us then? We got a month or so of nothing, until OU starts spring practices. During that time period, we will get updates from various sites (mainly TFB) talking about off season happenings. "So and so is doing GREAT" "This dude could be an All American". During that time, there seem to be 2 sides of the fence on these issues. There's the "I believe every word I hear" crowd. And the "I'm never believing another thing from coaches/sites ever again because (insert former 4 star player) burned me" crowd. So I feel it necessary to create an "OU fan's offseason guide to offseasoning". It's a translation really. Use it liberally. First quote will be what you will hear, second sentence is what you should interpret it as.
"______ who is a junior is finally seeing the light" - Translation: "He may see mop up duty but we can rely on him to not suck at special teams."
"______ early enrollee looks great, fits right in" - Translation: "He doesn't suck, but even if he did, I wouldn't tell you."
"______ looks like a freak athlete" - Translation: "He doesn't have the mental part of the game down, but looks good with his shirt off."
"______ will be an All American" - Translation: "He will probably start."
"______ got first team reps today, after getting second team reps yesterday, he seems to really be climbing the depth chart." - Translation: "First string guy was tired/injured, and this guy filled in today."
"______ (a freshman) will be starting by the Red Wiver Wivalwy." - Translation: "No he won't, not until the upperclassmen completely blows a game for us."
"______ is the best (fill in position) since (fill in former All American)." - Translation: "He won't be, but he's really, really good, and will be a star for us."
"Sources tell me OU was playing a (insert any defensive package not named a 3-4) today." - Translation: "We will have a package for this, it won't be our primary defense."
"______ has really came on of late." - Translation: "He had a good practice."
"______ freshman may start." - Translation: "He won't redshirt."
"______ is 3rd on the official depth chart, behind a walk on." - Translation: "He pissed the coaches off, and is being sent a message."
I'll add more as they come to me, just wanted to give yall a template for the people on both sides of the fence. The offseason isn't for the faint of heart. If you can't hear "inside info" without accepting it as 100% fact, then you shouldn't offseason. This template will keep you from getting burned.
