Oklahoma has been one of the better DL recruiting schools since Todd Bates and Miguel Chavis arrived on campus in 2022. What once was a position OU fans scoffed at in the recruiting world, is now one that Sooners fans and coaches alike feel is a string point on the Sooners’ roster.
That ability to recruit at the DT position is continuing in 2026 with Navy All-American practice and game standout, Valdin Sone, becoming a name that OU fans should watch closely moving forward.
I will be speaking with Sone and his mentor (he is originally from overseas and just moved to US), Brandon Collier, in the days to come, but the Sweden and now St George (VA) Blue Ridge DT is set to visit Oklahoma on January 25th, per a text from Collier.
Other sources feel Todd Bates has been really working the likely soon-to-be Rivals250 DT (now just a 3-star). Also, there are sources that speak highly of his fit at Oklahoma and Sone’s potential.
“I’ll be shocked if he isn’t close to being a 5-star or one out right because he has one if the bigger upsides in 2026.”
