Tonight has been something with a surprise twist of news coming out that OU RB coach Demarco Murray is up for the Penn State RB job. Here’s what I know and can tell you:
I can confirm that Penn State and OU spoke. A source directly tied to Sooners RB coach Demarco Murray and his camp called this evening to tell me that the Sooners all-time great RB and current RB coach is NOT taking the Penn State job. That could change, but source seemed pretty adamant on it.
“(Demarco) is building a house right now in Norman. (Murray), his wife and kids love Norman and OU and (Coach Murray) wants to stay as long as possible at Oklahoma,” a source in Murray’s camp told OUInsider this evening. “(Coach Murray) speaks to a lot of teams. Dallas contacted. Penn State. More than that, but (Murray) has a love for OU and wants to make sure this thing is right before even getting to that point where a departure or coaching somewhere else could happen.”
Again, Coach Murray has had an opportunity to leave and coach somewhere else plenty of times. So far, he has told them all no, and as a source in his camp said tonight, “(Demarco) loves OU. That’s where (Coach Murray’s) heart is at.”
You would think if Demarco Murray was going to leave, it would be for a job like the Dallas Cowboys where he has a strong past and history with the franchise. But even Jerry Jones and his Cowboys haven’t made enough of a pitch for Murray to live on from OU.
If something changes, or a source tells me something different over the next few days or so, I’ll update you all accordingly. But as of now, and according to what sources tell OUInsider, Demarco Murray has no plans on leaving his alma mater “unless was told to go.”
Stay tuned for more news.
