*** Was out At Lewisville (TX) tonight, with former OU WR coach’s and current Tulsa assistant Steve Spurrier Jr and OU safety coach Brandon Hall also in attendance.

Obviously, Hall was there seeing 2024 Rivals250 and four-star safety commit Jaydan Hardy. Hardy had a two-point conversion and an offensive TD tonight. Was also big on defense with two Bear interceptions and several pass deflections vs Plano.

*** As for the 2025 four-star OL Michael Fasusi? He told me that Sooners offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby came by to see him today. Fasusi said that resonated with him, with him knowing that he’s a priority to Brent Venables, Jeff Lebby and OL coach Bill Bedenbaugh.

*** Fasusi also told OUinsider that the win vs Texas was huge for OU and added, “You can see what Coach Venables and his staff have been selling and pushing coming to light,” Fasusi said. “But even before that, my family and I always felt at home with Oklahoma. It just has that feel to it that makes you comfortable, so it’s a place I could see myself at for sure.”

*** Texas, Missouri, USC and Oregon are a few others that are high on the blue-chipper’s list, but you can tell the Sooners standout quite a bit early on. So much that Fasusi said, “OU plays UCF next week, right? I’ll probably hop a ride up with my dude Jaydan [Hardy] for that one. If he’s going, I’m going… I’m ready to get back up there.”

*** Also have a quick 5 min interview that is more general that this insider and behind the scenes batch of notes, but I do think you all can glean some info on his recruitment in that video interview as well, so don’t miss out there.

*** Some notes on cornerback recruiting, with a lot to unpack…

— First, I continue to hear that OU is still open and talking with four-star CB Devon Jordan. Obviously, with DJ being an OKPreps guy, there is more to the story, but that’s a recruitment that I will deep-dive into after NSD.

I also know some are writing him off in the 2024 class, and I would say a bit prematurely, I might add. It’s not that I’m so sure DJ will end up in the Sooners’ 2024 class, but it’s more that he’s an in-state kid. Meaning, OU turning away a top-tier 4-star DB from inside its state borders is not something you would even contemplate doing UNLESS you have some other options that are too good to pass up, right?

More on that ‘UNLESS’ in a minute.

As for Jordan, he is set to visit Oklahoma State this weekend. No, I don’t foresee Oklahoma State being a major factor here — at least not yet. Still, if the Sooners feel this thing is dragging out too much longer, I then wouldn’t be shocked to see them look around a bit. Though I will add that I am hearing a decision with DJ could be coming in the next week or two (WHAT 14-21 day period this could be for OU if things stay trending as is right now, huh?).

I get it. We have heard that before, but this time if it doesn’t happen, I would guess there was a hiccup or two that caused the hold up. OR there is some numbers issues if OU starts to feel good about some other targets. Either way, I do think a decision is near and if the Sooners are still pushing for Jordan, I would continue to like their odds.

Now…

Yes, you read that correctly a paragraph or so go. The word “UNLESS” was capitalized to make a point. That point is after the Sooners beat Texas last Saturday, there were recruits that seemingly became more open to the idea of Oklahoma in 2024, 2025, 2026, and potentially in the transfer portal after the season. Not a bold statement, I know. Still, I don’t say that to you all UNLESS there is substance to it. I want to make that crystal clear.

The new or resurgence in interest with the Sooners is all well and good, and it proves the theory or statement that ‘winning cures all,’ but there needs to be action behind that as well. At least in my opinion. Action/interest the Sooners will get a chance to test during UCF weekend. As they say, action speaks louder than words.

I digress…

On a similar note, there has been buzz surrounding former Michigan State CB commit, Camren Campbell, looking to possibly visit for the UCF game (watch the film. Severely underrated, imo).

He would undoubtedly have some interest with the Sooners due to it not only being OU — and their pipeline in Tampa being strong these days — but also the fact his close friend and fellow former Spartan commit Reggie Powers is also set to visit OU for the UCF game.

That’s not the end of the CB recruiting talk, either…

There are also a few other names that have resurfaced — though we will tell you all to tread very lightly there and not get your hopes up with them.

AGAIN, take a believe it when you see it mentality here, but those names we hinted at are five-star DB Kobe Black and four-star Vols commit Kaleb Beasley. Both of which have continued to stay in touch with Jay Valai and the Sooners before and after the Sooners’ win over Texas, so that isn’t the potential big news that was hinted. The potential big news would be if either visited in the near future and let’s just say that’s not out of the question at this time.

AGAIN, believe it when you see it. That’s what we have continued to say behind the scenes, However, we also aren’t doing our jobs if we don’t throw that out there that the possibility of a visit from them is there.

All that said, I would be watching news on Camren Campbell closely. Very closely, actually. It’s something we have our eyes on and will continue to update you all if we hear more on any of the above notes regarding cornerback recruiting.

Side Note: CB recruiting is Jay Valai playing with house money since he has four-star CB Eli Bowen and four-star CB Jeremiah Newcombe already on board. That’s why you see the Sooners looking to piggyback off the hot start to the 2023 season. If Valai can catch a few more hot hands, you never know what could transpire in the world of recruiting so stay tuned.

*** Lastly, the UCF game has a chance to be a very good visit weekend. Even with the potential big recruiting weekend, let’s get a bit closer to game day before we throw out some of the names we have heard from a few sources.

Still, we wanted to clue you all in that we are aware of some potential visitors that would definitely pique your interest.

Hope to have a full list by Wednesday evening or Thursday afternoon.

Stay tuned and have a blessed weekend, Insiders!
