Screw ESPN and their bias rating system. Hell if they had there way it would be 3 SEC teams plus Ohio State

The FPI is easy to quote because it's easy to find FPI rankings for all schools.

The SOR (Strength Of Record) index is considerably more accurate, because it uses the strength ranking of each opponent team AND their opponents into the equation.

The problem with SOR is that everyone tinkers and has their own take on it, and good luck finding comprehensive SOR rankings for schools and a published complete formula for same. Most that I've seen muddy the waters with at least one utterly bad addition that infuses opinion and momentum into the process.

HOWEVER, according to ESPN's take (good luck) on SOR, 15 of the 16 teams selected by the CFP committee have been ranked in the top 4 of that season's SOR rankings. That's not necessarily a blank check of acceptance for SOR, because it could just be that the committee likes that particular metric more than any other, by a significant margin.
