The defense detractors are really beating a dead horse (IMO) if a team has a competent QB and receivers the spread is almost impossible to defend.
Everyone is waiting for some cathartic event where stopping the spread is finally solved and it just won’t happen.
If you’re going to gripe about bad technique, bad position, bad tackling, constantly getting beat deep I get that, but stopping the spread is not going to happen.
Be resigned to the fact that a spread O is going to get theirs and you can counter that by keeping their O off the field, playing clean (minimize penalties and turnovers) and give yourself good opportunities in the red zone.
