I read this article and thought it was very interesting. Since they are not denying it, I'm curious if anyone remembers OU being criticized for "clairvoyance" during Venable's tenure with us? It seems to be run from the Graduate Assistant program and I have never tracked that in our program.

As for Clemson: Venables is a notably late defensive play-caller, usually waiting to see how the offense lines up and then firing off his own signals and calls in the few seconds he has before the ball is snapped. The coaches who spoke to SI for this story attributed that to waiting for information from his code breakers.

“They have an army of support personnel,” one coach said. “That’s why Venables gets the calls in so late. I’m not sure of the chain of communication to Venables, but he waits for it.”

Patterson thought we were doing it during our game 2 weeks ago. That’s why he ended up having a guy stand in front of him while he was relaying signals to his defense.

People have been stealing signs for years. No reason that the NCAA doesn't use the same technology that the NFL has used for years.

High School teams steal signals as well. Heck I've had opponents listen in on our head sets during games.

I'm neither condemning nor condoning the practice. I think it is interesting that one of our former coaches is considered one of the top practitioners of signal stealing, according to the article.

... and Detroit hired AJ Hinch. Everybody steals signs. And every sport knows it. The heat on the Astros was BS.

Thats why we have 3 coaches signaling in plays, one coach is live. If we think coaches are stealing signs then we change the that is live. Go old school and run the plays in with a WR.

With the technology around I am really shocked that a communication device isn’t put in the QB helmet and transmitted to him. As far as stealing signals why so much upraor in sports over it? I agree with the poster who said the Astro stuff was BS. If anyone thinks the Astros were the only ones doing it that is pretty naive.

its not cheating if your dumb enough not to disguise your signals for others to pick up on. All teams in every sport are always looking to gain an advantage to win games.
