The first rankings are being released and I'll post the player's that Oklahoma may be in on as they get dropped. Right now Oklahoma has 3 commits in this class SS Avery Hodges, C Jocelyn Erickson, and P SJ Guerin. I expect all three to be in the top 100 with Erickson being in the Top 10, and Guerin Top 5.
#91—Janyssa Ramos, P, Top Gun Academy – Turner (uncommitted)
After strong camp performances at schools like Arkansas and Kansas, Janyssa has received significant interest and has received her first D1 offer. A lefty pitcher, she’s hitting 60 mph on the gun and has an effective change and is able to mix in curves and screws at any point in the count to keep the hitters guessing, which last season helped her average eight Ks per game and limit the opposition to a.209 batting average. Janyssa has George Gidora (Texas) and Paige Parker (Oklahoma) as pitching coaches and is getting stronger each outing at keeping hitters off balance and showing poise in the circle for someone playing top competition.
#86—Lily West, C, Oklahoma Angels (uncommitted)
Lily has been working with Oklahoma standout catcher Lindsey Vandever Muddgett since age nine and that level of training shows in her play as she’s the undisputed leader on the field for her Oklahoma Angels team. Lily helped her team finish 3rd at the USA Elite Select WFC last summer facing some of the top teams in the country. The backstop has a quick transfer behind the plate combined with a strong work ethic and the athletic ability which will allow her to play at an elite collegiate level. Lily has caught the attention of several top colleges in the SEC and Big 12, several of whom have already invited her for visits. A multi-sport athlete, she plays AAU basketball and made her varsity tennis team as a 7th grader.
Oger's Take- Coach Gasso already has her commit at the Catcher position so I don't expect Oklahoma to be recruiting this local target but I guarantee you OSU will be more than happy to swoop in snatch her up.
#83—Ashley West, P/1B, OC Batbusters – Katie Stith (uncommitted)
At 6-foot-1, Ashley West has the frame and size that coaches love which has been a formula for D1 level success for many pitchers. And she might not be done growing as her father is 6-foot-8. It’s hard to create the leverage and whip that a tall pitcher has without that height. Pitching for the OC Batbusters team led by Katie Stith, the daughter of organizational head Mike Stith, Ashley is focused and a hard worker and has everyone watching her to see how she’ll mature and develop. Many are raving she has a very high ceiling because of her physical gifts, work ethic and great resources around her in the Batbuster organization. She’s a hard thrower working on movement and said one top coach, “Ashley is a bright prospect with a great future ahead of her.”
Oger's Take- This is one player that I am very intrigued with simply because of the physical attributes that she brings to the Pitcher's position. At 6'1" I'm very curious to see if she grows to 6'4" or 6'5" and is throwing flames by the time she hits her Junior year. Being that she is in the Batbuster's system which Coach Gasso has ties with you can bet they are watching her closely.
#82—Indiana Langford, MIF/OF, OC Batbusters – Shockey/Whieldon (uncommitted)
Indiana is a versatile player who has great speed and natural gifts you can’t coach. Said one elite scout, “She is freakishly fast, it’s unbelievable how fast she is.” Indiana is a middle infielder who looks to be playing more at second base, at least in the short term, and is a slapper who can put the ball on the dirt and move down the line to make it so anything that’s not fielding immediately will put her on the bases. She was impressive at the Select 30 All-American combine last August in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and competing against players years older more than held her own. Indiana is another player with unlimited potential and said a top club coach, “She could be a top 20 player in her class very soon.”
Oger's Take- Again another OC Batbuster and any top player that comes from that organization you know Oklahoma is keeping a close eye on. Being that she is a lefty slapper and reportedly very fast you have to evaluate her as a potential leadoff.
#77—Aynslee Linduff, P/UT, Gametime Stars (uncommitted)
Ashley is a dual threat on the mound and at the plate for the Gametime Stars 2021 Gold team. During the 2017 season she went 19-5 on the mound with a 2.20 ERA and recorded 101 strikeouts versus 45 walks in 135 innings pitched because of her tremendous spin on the ball and speed in the low 60’s. At the plate, the Oklahoma product who has played up her whole life has the ability to go to both sides of the field while hitting with power and average from the left side. She hit .420 last season with a .460 on-base percentage and smashed 20 doubles from the 2-hole in the lineup. She is receiving high interest from Big 12 and SEC schools and already has an offer from one Big 12 program and has been on several other visits so don’t be surprised if she’s off the market sooner than later.
Oger's Take- I haven't seen Aynslee play so I can't give a good evaluation of her talent but if she is in the initial Top 100 then she has Division 1 talent. Being that she is a local girl I suspect that OU, OSU, and TU have made contact with her already. If I had to guess which SEC schools are involved the first would have to be LSU because they have made a huge effort in establishing stronger ties in the Midwest to go along with their already strong ties in Texas.Tennessee and Florida could be involved as well.
#68—Ashanti McDade, P/UT, Oklahoma Angels (uncommitted)
Ashanti has a fastball clocked in the mid-60’s which looks faster because of her devastating, floating change up. She also has excellent natural movement on her pitches to keep batters off balance and said one coach, “She is without a doubt of the of the top pitchers in the nation.” Last summer facing the top teams in her age division, Ashanti recorded 223 strikeouts in 151 innings and helped her team finish 3rd at the USA Elite Select World Fastpitch Championship. At the St. patty’s Day Blast Tournament she helped the Angels win the title and was a star at the plate hitting .412 with a pair of home runs and 11 RBI in seven games. The Oklahoma hurler has received interest from SEC and Big 12 schools and is also competitive in basketball and track.
Oger's take- This is one that I hope the Oklahoma coaches are keeping a close eye on because throwing in the mid 60's at that age as well as having a change up really could be dangerous for the good girls should she commit to another Big XII school.
#64—Jade Ignacio, C/1B, Athletics – Mercado/Greg (uncommitted)
Thanks to her great size, power and athleticism, Jade—who goes by the nickname “Cousin”—is an ideal quarterback from behind the plate. She receives the ball well and her great footwork allowed her to have only four passed balls allowed all fall. She receives the ball well and is not just a trustworthy defensive receiver, she’s strong offensively as well as she batted over .400 in 100-plus innings last fall. As a hitter the ball jumps offer her bat and she says one scout, “Jade has power to spare and hits hits the ball as hard as anyone in the 2022 class. Not only does Jade “pass the eye test,” she has set the bar extremely high for her position within this class. She has visited Oklahoma, Oregon and Arizona and has interests from other SEC, Pac-12 and Big 12 programs as well.
Oger's take- Jade obviously has interest in Oklahoma since she has been on campus already on her parents own dime but Oklahoma already has their Catcher in this class so unless she is willing to make the switch to 1B I don't see Oklahoma offering.
#62—Amari Harper, SS/OF, Firecrackers – Brashear/Lopez (uncommitted)
Amari has good softball bloodlines as her mother, Carrie Frederick, stared at the University of Oklahoma from 1992-95. The younger daughter is a lefty with speed, but she has good size and pop in her bat to impact a game in multiple ways. She has good all-around athletic abilities to drop a bunt and beat it out or swing away and hit a 200-foot blast. Amari is primary a shortstop but can play anywhere in the outfield and some think in time she’ll be a Top 20 national player in her class. Oklahoma and several Pac-12 programs such as UCLA, Oregon and Utah are among the national programs showing interest in the Southern California native.
Oger's take- Being a legacy player of a former OU softballer and being this highly ranked you have to keep an eye on this one.
#56—Ayden Allen, IF/OF, Texas Glory (uncommitted)
Ayden has all the physical tools and skills to play anywhere on the field except pitcher and catcher and her versatility has college coaches excited to follow her with the prospect of plugging her in quickly at numerous positions in college. Ayden is big and strong at 5-foot-9 and is excellent defensively with a strong arm that allows her to play anywhere at a high level in the infield or outfield. At the plate, she hits for power and drives the ball a long way. Said one top Southwest coach, “I love this kid, she has the physical and mental tools to be a standout at the collegiate level.” Last summer Ayden helped her 14U team win the North Texas Shootout and finish 9th at the Colorado Sparkler Juniors showcase. She was also a USSSA Select All-American. Ayden has several teams from the Big 12 and other Southwest region conferences following her closely.
Oger's take-Coming from the Texas Glory organization she's one to keep an eye whether she goes to Oklahoma or not. I expect Baylor, Oklahoma, A&M, Oklahoma St, and LSU to be in hot pursuit of this talent.
T-52—Cecilia Vasquez, SS, Diamond Sports Hotshots – Nelson (Louisiana-Lafayette)
Cecilia has already found her collegiate home committing to Head Coach Gerry Glasco and is a key part of his great early push in recruiting for the Ragin’ Cajuns.. She’s a smooth-fielding shortstop who has great hands and feet and makes the tough plays look routine. One coach described her as the “Ozzie Smith of softball.” With tons of experience on national stages—including appearances at PGF Nationals 10U and 12U, Triple Crown Nationals, the USA Select World Fastpitch Champinship and the USA Softball All American Games—Cecilia is already playing against the best competition at her age level and it has elevated her game immensely. On offense, she’s a solid slapper who can beat you with the small ball game or surprise with home run power. One of seven committed players on Nathan Nelson’s team, watch for the Hotshots to be a serious threat to play on the last day in every event they’re in this year.
Oger's take- The Hotshot's players in this age group have been hotly recruited ever since their domination of the field last Summer in PGF ball. 7 commits from this team at this age level, including 1 for Oklahoma in SJ Guerin, is pretty impressive. Except for Guerin who is very solid to OU, I'm being told that this is more of a peer thing so I don't expect the recruiting of these commits to be over just yet.
#49—Ailana Agbayani, MIF/OF, OC Batbusters – Katie Stith
The Agbayani name is a familiar one to baseball and softball fans alike as Benny Agbayani, the patriarch of the family played for the New York Mets from 1998 to 2001 and later with the Rockies and Red Sox and Ailiana’s older sister, Aleia, is a 2019 grad who is a first baseman/outfielder also in the Batbusters organization who has committed to Cal. Ailana, like her older sister, travels from Hawaii to work out with Mike and Katie Stith and Mark Campell to perfect her skills. The younger player is a legitimate slapper who, according to one coach, “has great on-field awareness and softball sense and knows how to play.” Ailana has great range in the middle infield and her good speed translates well to defense and on the base paths. Offensively, she has a strong presence and, says another coach, “knows what she’s doing like everyone in that family.”
#30—Jocelyn Erickson, C, OC Batbusters – Campbell (Oklahoma)
Jocelyn comes from a family of athletes as a brother and sister have played baseball and softball at BYU and another is on the way. The youngest of five has benefitted from watching her siblings as her skill level is, as one coach put it, “is off the charts and she has a ton of upside.” The Phoenix native is a great defensive player and she has all the tools to be a dominant catcher at the next level while her offensive skills are improving too. Jocelyn also plays volleyball which helps her quickness and explosive movements which is one reason she had heavy interest from all over the nation before she committed to the Sooners in October of 2017. Said one high-level scout, “Jocelyn could be a top 10-ranked player by the end of the summer as she picks up intensity to her game and brings it all together.”
Oger's take- I have gone on record that I feel Jocelyn is a Top 10 talent so I'm a bit surprised that she is ranked where she is. I'm going to assume they are paying more attention to her hitting than they are her fielding the Catcher's position because it's a rarity to see a kid her age displaying the type of skills that she puts out there, boy or girl. It tells me that she is very coachable and she retains information really well. She is a very smart player so it won't surprise me at all if she is hitting in the .450 range next Summer proving whoever these doubters wrong.
#28—Elizabeth Schaefer, P, Texas Travelers (Oklahoma State)
Elizabeth is a 5-foot-11 pitcher who also swings a mean bat—mean enough to lead her Texas Travelers team in home runs and extra base hits last year. It’s in the circle, however, that her future lies as she’s hitting 62 mph with tremendous command and a devastating change up that floats in for strikes around 36-40 mph.. Elizabeth is also tossing a rise and has a drop that coaches say “falls off a cliff.” Over her select career, Elizabeth is the all-time leading strikeout pitcher for the Travelers’ organization with 1,840 while serving up less than 100 walks over that time. She is one of the key components to Kenny Gajewski’s successful run at talented young recruits making the Cowgirls’ future one to watch.
Oger's take- This is the 3rd player in the Top 40 that Coach Kenny has pulled in so like they said this is a team that is on the rise.
#23—Abigail Savoy, 1B, Diamond Sports Hotshots – Nelson (uncommitted)
Abigail is a true lefty who rarely strikes out at the plate and has dominated the stat sheet offensively and defensively the past few years. In top-level play last fall for the Louisiana Hotshots team, she hit 600 with an on-base percentage of .627 and didn’t strikeout all season. Abigail was a 1st Team All American selection at the USA Elite’s Select 30 Camp last August and has a high IQ on and off the field: in 7th grade she took the ACT for the first time and scored a 26. She has generated recruiting interest from 12 schools who are hot on her trail, with seven being from Power 5 programs.
Oger's take- I wouldn't be surprised at all if Oklahoma is one of the seven Power 5 teams who are in hot pursuit of this player. The Hotshot organization produced Nicole Mendes and Alyssa Dalton as well as current commit SJ Guerin.
#19—Cassie Boatright, MIF, Georgia Impact – Gusaeff (uncommitted)
Cassie is a middle infielder playing in her fifth season in the Impact program and, despite being the youngest player on the team, is one of the leaders on and off the field. She has a cannon for an arm and soft hands while playing both middle infield positions. This past summer while hitting in the middle of the line-up for Jason Gusaeff’s team hit a combined .417 at the Triple Crown Sparkler tournament and PGF Nationals. She led the team in home runs the past two seasons and as an 8th grader last fall in Georgia high school ball was named 1st Team All-State playing for Loganville Christian Academy. Also a 1st Team All-Region basketball player, she has been on multiple SEC visits and has several offers heading into the spring season.
Oger's take- The state of Georgia is really coming on as far as producing talent. When an 8th grader makes first team All-State in Georgia then you have to take notice. Oklahoma hasn't exactly recruited the Southeast but this wouldn't be a bad player to invite to camp to get a better look at.
#13—Olivia Gigante, P/1B, OC Batbusters – Campbell (uncommitted)
Olivia is an up-and-coming pitcher will all the tools and her potential is off the charts. She throws hard and brings all facets to the mound: power, velocity, and the key strength of zone awareness to keep the ball down and induce ground balls. She has legit spins and according to one scout, “is very sophisticated for her age.” Olivia’s location of pitches is good now and once she gets it perfected “she will be unbeatable,” says a top West Coast coach. Major programs like Oklahoma, Arizona, and Oregon are among the many who are watching to see how her development continues, but expect Olivia—playing for Mark Campbell’s powerhouse 14U team—to have her choice of top schools everywhere across the nation by the time PGF Nationals wraps up this summer.
Oger's take- If I had to choose right now who would be the 2nd Pitcher Oklahoma offers and gets a commit from in this class then it's Olivia. 1) She has all the potential of a Pitcher that Coach Lombardi loves to mold and 2) OC Batbusters. This organization is quickly becoming a farm system for Oklahoma. Even players who were already Oklahoma commits(Kenzie Hansen, Olivia Rains, Nicole May) and had been playing for other organizations are starting to finish their PGF ball with the Batbusters. When younger player's in the organization look at the top team in the Batbuster's system and see it's loaded with OU commits, it's a pretty big deal.
