Part of me likes the fact that we only claim AP national titles, but part of me gets sick of every other team (besides OU, Nebraska, and Texas) claiming all kinds of years they didn't win it all in most people's eyes. OU has 10 other national titles not including the traditional seven - 1915, 1949, 1950, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1967, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1978, 1980, 1985, 1986, 2000, 2003.
If basically everybody else is going to claim all kinds of titles they didn't earn, I'm starting to feel like OU might as well claim some titles we did earn, especially 1915, 1949, 1953, 1957, 1978...
