This thread is not to say that last night wasn't horrendous defensively, because it was. It was downright atrocious. But, let's remember that it took BV several years to field an elite defense when he became the Clemson DC in 2012. See below. I list out Clemson's scoring defense and total defense #'s and rankings. BV's first year at Clemson was not good, but by year 3 Clemson was Top 3 in total defense and scoring defense. That's an INSANE turnaround in only 3 years, and after only 3 recruiting cycles. To go from bottom half, to TOP 3 in 3 years is crazy impressive. Obviously the same thing may not happen at OU, but one can certainly look at this data and realize that we should give BV some time. In his 10 years as DC, Clemson was Top 5 in scoring defense on FIVE different occasions, and was Top 10 in total defense SEVEN different times. That's elite stuff.
I'm not trying to be the annoying "silver lining" guy, but you guys have to have faith. It's going to be okay. Defense is coming, it's just not going to be an overnight switch.
Now I realize BV is now the head coach, so it's a bit different. But based on historical data, we should expect a big jump between Year 1 and Year 3 and 4. Patience is a virtue.
