BU is actually competing, not pissing their pants cryiin for momma.
So much for Riley’s argument this is a tough competitive conference. That notion was put to rest. Many prayers for better coaching and leadership in 2020. A Big 12 Championship is like a melted ice cream cone.
I'm rooting for OU to leave simply because it'd force our gutless leadership to finally make a move and get us out of this joke of a conference. If we're going to shit the bed every year I'd rather lose to USC than Baylor. We should have merged with the Pac when we had the chance.
Are you sure about the Big 10? This move dropped Nebraska to the cellars of college football. What makes you think it's a good move for OU?
SEC WEST! Boren's focus on academics was a false narrative. We need to be in the best conference playing the best competition, on the biggest stage. Recruits want to play where they can be showcased and right now our path to the NFL is lopsided to the O side of the ball.
I agree but Sooner fans better be prepared to give up the easy path to conference titles because that won’t happen outside of the B12 regardless if we go to the SEC or B10. But the upside would be the opportunity to upgrade our recruiting classes with future NFL defensive players that we haven’t had to many years. For the majority of OU fans winning the conference title and getting the “opportunity” to play for a natty as the 4th best trumps everything. To each his/her own.
As a season ticket holder the thought of a home SEC schedule makes me salivate. It's hard to get fired up about our current home schedule
That wouldn't surprise me but the PAC would be the last choice if it were up to me unless we got to play USC every year.
That’s exactly what I’m saying, unfortunately. We have a great OC but we may have a HC with a Texas Tech mentality. I hate to say it and hope I’m wring but to date I’ve never seen anything Championship caliber come out of Texas Tech.
Having said that Riley is a big disciple of Stoops. Riley saw Stoops skate by in the Big 12 by competing for the conference title, anything on top of that is icing on the cake. I see no scenario under which Riley would want OU to leave the Big 12, he’d be cutting his own throat imo.
He could continue along as Is for as long as he wants. Who would fire a HC who loses 1 or 2 games a year and consistently competes for the Conference Championship. It may just be me but when Riley refers to us in his recruiting pitches and recruit barbecues as “ChampU”. I don’t even know what those kids think. Do they buy into that? What are we Champ U of?
Not sure we would fare any better but if I remember correctly, Nebraska was already on the downhill slide when they left. I don't like the impact it could have on recruiting. I'd rather go SEC or PAC 12
Reading all the comments, I certainly understand the concerns and sentiments. Can i suggest we need to give Grinch next season to see if the defense continues to make strides?
I know the Peach Bowl is fresh on our minds BUT the defense played better this year, in almost EVERY game, with a majority of Stoop's recruits. We are starting to get into the Grinch pool and hopefully he can continue to grow this side of the ball.
We have much bigger DB's coming in which allow you to do a number of different things with your DL, LB, schemes, etc.
If we are still having this conversation on 1/1/2021, I'll be disappointed.

OU would win the B1G west most every year and usually face TOSU for the conference title much like we did in the Big 8 with Nebraska.
OU would enjoy greater exposure in northern and eastern cold weather locations that do export athletes that we could recruit.
OU doesn’t have the cold weather advantage with the SEC... The few that we have signed usually had a preexisting OU connection so it’s been only very rarely that OU is able to sign athletes from the SEC footprint and that’s not likely to change very much.
The Nebraska problem is the same as what we see at many programs such as Tennessee, FSU, Texas and other programs... They keep making the wrong coaching hires.
For many players in Texas, OU is still the closest and best football experience available. The population of the DFW area has exploded and its 3 hours away. This is not changing no matter where OU moves.
The new B1G athletic contracts will provide OU with far more money and be on par with future SEC money. Without this money OU’s facilities will gradually fall behind those we recruit against.
There are very important academic considerations that are not available to OU anywhere else but the B1G. These benefits equate to additional monetary value.
Improving OU as a university is attractive to some recruits and is the responsible move for our state.
