Bama board discussion vs OU

Below is some of what is being said. I actually think this group of posters at least have respect for OU

I don’t really like shortening the game with ball possession either

I don't either. If this were 2011, and we had a dominant defense, and a ball control offense, sure.

But, if we run that offense, WE'LL score less too. That means the score will be closer because we're not going to stop them every time either.

I think we run our normal offense and defense. They'll score, but our offense against their defense is a bigger mismatch. I'd play the odds and fire away on offense.

*Edit* I see this has already been covered.

I'm still not convinced a track meet is the type of game we want to get into. I think we need to definitely try to establish the run game to force their defense to stay on the field and allow ours to stay fresh.

This will be a track meet whether we choose it to be or not. The best way to approach something like that is to use your best tools to your advantage over playing a style you don't normally play.

Bama was superior to OU in a few years ago as well. AJ threw three or four interceptions in that game?

2 Ints from Mcarron plus the fumble in the endzone. and Trevor Knight has the most Stephen Garcia game we'd seen since 2010. Only has been surpassed by Fromm this SECCG.

I have all the confidence in the world in this team and think we will win, but if I am being honest, this was the least wanted matchup in the first round I wanted out of all the possibilities . Just don’t need wasted possessions

I’ve never been on the Bama board but this is exactly what I am hearing from family in Alabama. Their attention toward OU is much, much greater than before the Sugar Bowl Sooner kickass. I love it. OU certainly has their attention this time around. BOOMER!

I know that I wouldn't want to come up with a defensive game plan for OUr offense. I keep hearing from the Nebraska fans about how bad OU will lose to Bama. I don't think non Sooner fans realize how explosive OUr run game is. We will need the best offensive line in the country to come out and dominate up front. If that happens, I just don't see anybody stopping this offense as long as we don't stop ourselves by turning the ball over.

You are correct. Alabama and Oklahoma have only played 5 times in history with Bama winning the 1st meeting and the two schools ending in a tie during the 2nd meeting because there was no overtime back then and then OU has won the last three meetings. :)

OU is 3-1-1 against Bama

Its nice they're showing us some respect, but I still wish we were flying under their radar.

Went to our favorite pizza place tonight and had conversations with a UGA and a Bama fan.

The UGA guy started out saying he expected a "Bama blowout." I told him the last time we played Bama, OU was a 17 point underdog and we won 45-31. He shot back with the usual "The B12 doesn't play defense" and I said we play enough D to have won the B12 fours year in a row and that OU did not have trouble putting up points on those vaunted SEC defenses and reminded him of the 544 yards and 48 points OU put on his Dogs last year. Yeah we lost, but only after 2 OTs.

The Bama guy was respectful of OU and said he was more worried about OU than Clemson or ND. He said he expected Bama to play it like Army, run the ball, keep Kyler on the bench and avoid a shootout. He felt they had a better chance of slowing down the game and wearing down our D with their running game. He said even with Tua cleared to play, he preferred to see them run the ball and use Tua to go after our DBs with play action passes.

I know, cool story.

Yeah, I’m hearing the same stuff. They’re scared. Bama’s fans would rather us play Clemson and leave Notre Dame to the Tide. That’s respect. I like it. Boomer!

Bama fans "might" be scared, but the Bama players are NOT! Just read an article that said the Bama defense will be FIRED UP to play since Tua did not win the Heisman. I remember the motivation OU's defense had in the Orange Bowl against FSU when Weinke won the Heisman and that was our last National Championship.

Time for LR to craft an offensive blitz to use that D aggression against the Tide. Should be interesting. I have no doubts LR has found some wrinkles and and a few weaknesses to exploit. I just hope our running game can get established and rolling.

I hope LR is watching these bowl games and getting some ideas from some of the great trick plays I've been seeing. One awesome play in the red zone by Appalachian State had the QB hand off to the RB sweeping left, who then handed off to the WR sweeping right while the QB swung out in the flat and caught a pass for a TD from the WR. That was a thing of BEAUTY!

I think LR is much more complex than he gets credit for. He has so much to choose from, and I have confidence he will insert some plays that leaves Bama players and coaches saying “did not see that coming” over and over.

I don't make much of this type of stuff. So you are telling me that the Bama Defense wouldn't be fired up had Tua won? Or they would be less fired up? Saban wouldn't allow that to happen and those kids wouldn't either. It's a chance to play for a National Championship, what else motivation do you need?

The best team is going to win this game. OU was clearly the better team in 2000, in my opinion. That’s the reason we beat Florida State for the natty. We will find out which team is better on the 29th, Oklahoma or Alabama. Both teams will be ready.

The difference is, Josh deserved the Heisman based on the full season "body of work".
Everybody thought that team whose program used to be good, was a fluke in 2000 and the mighty power FSU, was a mainstay. That year, the Heisman was awarded to FSU over OU, rather than Weinke over Josh.
Tua this year, not so much.

I thought the same thing, but when I looked up the stats from 2000, Weinke's were much better so we must have been biased.
