And Now, Charles Walker is Gone

Figured something like this may have been up when news of his "injury" came up. Wasn't Walker the one who the middle of the week AFTER the TCU game said he remembered he had a concussion during the TCU game and notified medical to get put on the injured list?? Sounded fishy at the time, and kinda looks to me like he just didn't want to play so he could stay healthy and prepare for the NFL draft.

I assume Walker is giving himself a chance at the next level with his concussion issues. Can't blame him.

If his concussion issues are legitimate though, wonder how much that will affect his draft appeal to teams?

A lot I'm sure but no reason to impede the young man from taking his shot. He has the talent but it's so much wiser to be cautious.
As far as it affects us, he was gonna leave anyway and it's given equally talented Gallimore needed experience for next season. Lampkin as well.

Ouch, Mike has said his peace...

“Quitting on your teammates is hard to take, as a coach,” Mike Stoops said. “That’s everything we stand for -- our commitment to one another and, for whatever reason, that wasn’t there for him. He thought this was a better avenue so you would have to ask him for those (answers).”

Also I forgot about earlier in the season when rumors got out that Walker had quit the team. Remember it lead to Walker making that big statement where he denied quitting on the team. I guess now we know the truth.

Sounds strange. Maybe they don't want to play for Mike.

Mike can eat my ass with a spoon. His scheme is failing this kids and wasting their potential. I wouldn't be shocked if Steven Parker and Jordan Thomas both go pro because they're tired of getting drug through the mud because of being asked to do the impossible. Sitting out could have been Charles' only shot for all we know.

Meanwhile Mike is still collecting a million a year.

Well I definitely can't argue with ya here. Mike has slowly worn out his welcome with me as well. I don't doubt many of the players have similar feelings.

Walker has talent but the NFL will not look at a quitter. This is a red flag that most teams will not take a chance on until late in the draft. I think he had the potential to maybe get into the 2nd round with a good season and grading out high at the combine. Now I doubt he goes till the 6th or 7th round. Dimon had issues all season and the righting was on the wall, he should have stayed in school, he has no shot at the NFL.

Mike Stoops is quoted as being miffed with Walker in the DO and said he had not talked to Walker. Strange that D players are leaving. Really hoping this is Mike's last season as well. It's time for change plus nepotism is not a good idea anywhere.

Guys and girls,

Walker has a kid and wants the chance to make a better life for her. You can't fault anyone for doing for their family. Especially if you came from a low place in life.

Yet it sounds as if MStoops is faulting him for that, so either that's an excuse or MStoops has as horrible of character as he does defensive prowess.

Wow I really thought he was a Team Player. Not taking any chances on being injured and risking his draft stock slipping and turning his back on his team and school that is giving him a first rate education absolutely tuition free. He's not even a projected first rounder. He's a family man and I understand that...but what about that Diploma he earns? Is that not enough to earn a good living for his family?

He got his first concussion (that we know of) prior to the Orange Bowl vs. Clemson. He got hurt again early in the 2016 season and now he's decided to sit out the remainder of the year to get ready for the NFL.

For all intents and purposes, he's been gone all season anyway, so I guess it's not like he was making any kind of contribution to the team. I wish him luck in the NFL, but I do think it's a pretty selfish decision and agree with Mike that he's "given up" on his teammates, coaches and the university who tried to give him a free education.

Charles Walker could take a lesson in toughness from Seth Russell... kid had surgery on a broken neck and was on the field practicing the following February. He was a inspiration to his teammates in such a time of Got his leg broke last week and If they'd let him play in a cast I bet he'd be out there in another week or two.

Charles Walker will not make it in the NFL. Obviously he has commitment issues, and I for one question his toughness.

What else is he going to do? His defense is bad and a player just bailed on him. It's a bad situation, no doubt.
