I watched this classic today. The game was obviously much more physical back then than it is now. Good hard hitting championship game between OU and PSU.
Lydell Carr was special that game too as I recall. Keith Jackson was greatness no matter what facet of his game was. That team was special...like this year's team but with badass defense.
Another Perspective...My Memory of the '86 Orange was from a SMALL TV Screen, bought especially for the occasion, and carried into The Sugar Bowl, to a seat in the nose-bleed section. My husband and I brought our HS Football Team to that game, and THAT was an Experience! Some had never been out of Oklahoma, so the Super Dome/Bourbon Street Trip was overwhelming!
It was #2 Miami VS #8 Penn State...Vinny was NOT at his finest, and when the Vols sealed the deal, the Roar of the Crowd was Deafening...None louder than the OU Fans present...It was assumed that loss, along with OUr Win would enable The Sooners to gain #6...

BUSTED! You get a 'Gotcha' Moment, V...I think it was Miami vs Penn State the next year. I believe Tennessee was the team that beat Miami when we beat Penn State in the 86 Orange Bowl.
I was there also. On the 20 yard line behind the OU bench. I stayed at the Fountain Blue Hilton on Miami Beach where the OU team stayed that year. I have a bunch of pictures from that week stored away somewhere. I had a few rum and cokes with Mike Jones & Scotty Hill at OU poolside cabana. I have watched that game on many occasions. I have the front page of the Miami Herald featuring Coach Switzer and the Boz framed and hanging in my sports bar at home.I was there. Keith Jackson caught the long TD pass right in front of me. One of the most amazing things about that game was how many Pitt fans I ran into who were there just to root against Penn State.
No place like The 'bleu, Hot Spot of the '80s In Havana North. Wonder if that's still the case...Anyone know?I was there also. On the 20 yard line behind the OU bench.
