Here's what the running backs corps may look like in 2023:

Gone are Gray, Thompson (UCF transfer)

Reserves are Knowles, Hudson and preferred walk-on Reis Taylor, for whatever that's worth.
I count five solid running backs and six if Marcus Major stays for the 2023 season.

Major is underrated in my opinion. Put him behind a good o-line and he would be very effective.

I'm not on the Major bandwagon. He's had occasional impressive performances against subpar defenses, but he's not been nearly consistent enough to be a pro draft pick. I will love it if he proves himself this season in a prominent role, but after this year, if he leaves, it will be much more like through the transfer portal, than the pro draft. Kennedy Brooks was a far better running back, and he didn't get drafted, despite a couple of very productive seasons. A guy who has several productive runs against a depleted Florida defense, or at the end of blowouts, doesn't make him a pro draft candidate.

I see Major as a decent addition to the running back depth at OU this season, nothing more, nothing less. I'm glad he's around.
Any NFL potential he may have, I haven't seen, but I wouldn't bet against some team signing him as a free agent like Kennedy Brooks.
Like you, I see his exit from OU may coming at the end of this season by way of transfer, especially with the 5 stud backs (Barnes, Sawchuk, McCarthy, Hicks, Smothers) around.
With DeMarco Murray around, OU should always a solid running back supply.
