The Big XII will field outstanding talent at the QB position in 2016. Baylor probably is the deepest at QB but fortunately for the rest of the Big XII they are replacing a head coach and OL plus dealing with misery over **** charges. Assuming no injuries here is my take on the best of the best:

1) Baker Mayfield, OU

2) Seth Russell and/or Jarrett Stidham (Seth will be pushed hard by Jarrett)

3) Mason Rudolph, OSU

OR

3) Patrick Mahomes, TTech

5) Skyler Howard, WVU

6) Kenny Hill, TCU (A&M transfer, could be the sleeper in the whole group)

Best overall (experienced) QB talent in the Big XII in a number of years.

Normally I would take note that Texas does not have a topflight QB, but in two of the last three games against OU, Texas has not suffered.

I would consider this a very average year for big 12 QBs. Outside of Mayfield and Russell ( will he be as good as ever?) I don't consider anyone else anything special.

That true freshman QB for Texas was making some pretty good throws in their spring game. I know a spring game is pretty lame to judge a QB. But the kid was making some solid throws to his WRs in that game...especially for a true freshman that hadn't been on campus long at all. Texas could be pretty solid at the QB position in the next few years with that kid.

I think you'd be hearing a whole lot more about Mahomes if his defense didn't give up 44 PPG. Scoring 50 points in a game & losing is still a pretty rare feat, & yet Tech managed to pull it off not once, but twice last year.

Patrick Mahomes, Mason Rudolph and Baker Mayfield are all 2 time winners of the Big XII Offensive Player of the Week for 2015.

I think Pryor's premise is accurate. It's a really good year for QBs in the Big XII. Several of these guys could be on NFL rosters, maybe just backups but still on the roster.

The thing I note in addition is that all of these guys aside from Mason Rudolph have wheels too. I think if I'm not mistaken, Mason is the only true pocket passer on that list.

I believe Rudolph and Mahomes are very good qbs and probably should be rated above Russell since he's coming back from neck injury.

I could agree with that. However this seems to be an average or even a down year compared to other years.

I don't have any links to prove it, but I have read where the NFL scouts have rated Mahomes as the best prospect for the NFL. Imagine that, a Texas Tech system Q-B. I never remember one of the Tech Q-B's getting respect from the NFL...........
