Here is my biggest issue with that defensive philosophy... it doesn’t match well with your dynamic offense!!
The single best way to slow down the OU offense is to keep them on the sidelines. But your defensive philosophy is encouraging that
You have one of the best offenses in the country for 4 straight years. You don’t need the defense to be perfect. Just make some big plays. Get some stops. Gamble!!
We blitzed a lot vs UCLA and Iowa State. Hopefully that continues this week. But even when we blitz, we usually play pretty conservative on the back end. As opposed to Venables - who’d go completely unsound. He’d go all out on blitz, guess and jump the hot route, but leave one deep 1/2 completely open - gambling the QB wouldn’t find it
