Being an Oklahoma redneck we grow a pretty good garden. We try to get around 1500 to 2000 lbs of tomatoes, Usually around 75 cantaloupe, 150 lbs of potatoes. Have had a garden for probably 30 years. I am in awe of the way the pesticides are changing. We try to keep from using chemicals if we can but I am not going to let the pests carry me off. We have started getting into biological pest control. It uses live bacteria to attack pest. When we first started there was no biological pesticides now, you have specific products you buy that attack specific pest by what bacteria is in them. Science is really coming along with this. I just looked at some BT, hell there are tons of different BT's. Hope one day chemical spray can be a thing of the past. Problem is the big name companies are already swooping up the smaller ones. I have early blight and ordered some serenade, it is made by bayer I hate that. A couple years ago we even used beneficial nematodes. Feel like a dumbass dipping a sponge in a 5 gallon bucket to release the nematodes, but it has worked pretty well for us. Do any of you all get into this kind of stuff. We also ferment different things. I have 2 1/2 gallon crock full of sour pickles now. It also is a stress reliever messing with that stuff.
