Pete Golding/DC scuttlebutt...

...Hearing it from way too many different avenues that there is legitimate smoke to OU hiring Alabama co-DC Pete Golding to take over as Sooners defensive coordinator.

Sometimes one source/media outlet says something, and then everybody jumps on the bandwagon. So then it appears like everybody is hearing the same thing when in reality you're just trusting the word of one person.

This, though? This feels different. This is coming from about three or four different wavelengths that usually don't intersect. So either everyone is WANTING to believe it's true... or it's pretty damn close to actually being true.

I told ya I didn't think it'd happen before early signing period (Dec. 19-21). But if Lincoln Riley and OU know their guy on Nov. 18 and Golding wants to make that leap to full DC and not co-DC, it won't take a month to get it accomplished.

There's no social media signs yet, but obviously that doesn't tell the whole story:

He's young... but so was Riley. Maybe?

What was your FIRST ever Oklahoma Football game you attended?

I wanted to start this thread because I would LOVE to see who went to the oldest game that’s on this board. I know some guys are in their 70s so I would guess we at least have some who went to some games in the 50s.

Mine wasn’t very old obviously as I’m only 29, but my first game was when I was 11. I went to the 2000 Season opener against UTEP. I went with my dad. I have never loved a sporting event more in my life then I did that day. I watched Ronaldo Works look like Superman and carry the entire UTEP team into the endzone. My dad bought me a foam finger that I still have to this day. My dad and I sat beside 2 men that looked just like Santa and everyone around me high fived each other the entire game.

The crowd was packed out and we hadn’t even won 10 games in over a decade. That’s why I know our fan base is the best. I was addicted to the environment. I remember it getting dark and them turning on the lights and it was a nice cool summer evening. One day when my dad passes that will be a day that I talk about at his funeral. What an amazing night that was as my Sooner Fandom was born and my blood turned to crimson.

When was your first game?

I’m embarrassed for us going fwd

Does anyone think with this sh_t show of a defense we can win the next two games? Our defense is DISGUSTING! I spend most
of our games laughing at the idiocy of what I watch on the defensive side of the ball. Riley is being pulled out of his play calling rhythm trying to protect the defense. He better get this shit straight

What were you all expecting

I do get being frustrated but nothing is going to change until the offseason. Everybody is talking about LR being the next great one. Now all of a sudden he may not be good enough to be the coach at OU. Give me a damn break. By reading this thread some of you should apply, you seem to have it all figured out. I can take anything you dish so bring it, you are just being crybabies. Until he makes his hire and that coach changes the culture of the D, it is what it is. If you expected more that’s on you. Firing coaches mid season is always tough on any program, these are kids, they lost a mentor, the guy who brought them to OU for many of them. Win however you have to win. That’s all that really matters the rest of this season, try to enjoy it, it’s almost over. Boomer Sooner!

The Tech game was a gift...

I am glad we won. I am not undervaluing that win; we had to overcome some huge mistakes for that W. However, any drumbeat of "Take the Interim Tag" off of Coach Ruff, and make him full time DC, was drowned in a tidal wave of truth last night. We knew that Tech would be a test for our D. We took the test and just barely passed, but I think that the transitional defensive staff was pretty much exposed.

Now let's go get us a Class-A defensive coordinator!
