Defensive concerns?

After going back and rewatching the game, I am feeling more concerned about our defense. Even though we did some good things, there was a lot to be desired letting Houston have so much time of possession. I thought it was just BV being how he can be in the post game presser but I feel like our success this week is going to be more reliant on the defensive side going from good to great than the offensive side going from bad to ok.

JA speculation

I never played QB, I was a WR and DB, but when I looked up JA's stats in HS, he only played ONE full year as the starting QB and then went to OU. Now I'm no rocket scientist and have no experience playing QB, sans street ball, but how can someone be listed as a 5-star recruit and be expected to shine immediately at OU when they only had one full year of HS experience?

Is this the norm for recruits?

Fire Bedenbaugh

I’ve never been a hot take guy and call for people’s jobs and I’ve been a BB defender for the last few years but I rewatched the game last night and woke up pissed off. The university of Oklahoma can’t put together and offensive line that can average more than 3 yards a carry? Gabe Ikard talking about how guys don’t know their assignments and are just not physical enough, 3rd and 4th year guys don’t know what guy to block are we f****** serious? G5 schools have a better run game than OU has had the last two years. Was Jackson Arnold great Saturday? No, but most of the problems on offense all come from not being able to run the damn ball. I do not care about losing recruits if it means not having to watch this shit show run game 3 years in a row.

What Bothers Me More Than The Game…

Recruiting and Evaluations.

OU is going to be mid unless they start to attract better players. The last 3 years I see guys on here losing their mind when OU gets a new recruit that’s a 4 star. “He should be a 5 star”. “PT/BD is there any chance this guy becomes a 5 star?”

Same with 3 star. “He should be ranked higher”. “Have you seen his tape?” “Waaay under rated”.

Stop it!

“But we aRE A tOP 1o cLaSS”

Don’t care. It’s frustrating to see these other teams (who we used to be a part of) land top recruits while we fight over high 3- low 4 star players. Outside of Fassusi there seem to be a bunch of mid players committed. It’s quantity over quality at OU now because “culture”. It’s either “stars don’t matter” or “development matters”. Either way we’re getting neither on the offensive side of the ball.
We just played 2 of the worst teams in CFB and OU’s offense fell flat.

Auburn flipped a 5 star WR from A&M.
Auburn!
What top receivers do we have in upcoming class?
Mills? The guy who’s probably going to flip to Nebraska? Ok. Or he visited there because, he knows that Oklahoma isn’t going to get anyone as good to replace him.

QB’s
I’m not saying Arnold is bad. But, the “he needs time” argument is silly to me at this point.
He doesn’t have anymore time. The kid was scared last night. He didn’t know what to do. Out of all the chaos I didn’t see one single play where he shined through to make something happen.

Raiola tearing it up as a true freshman at Nebraska
Lagway balled out at Florida
Arch barely played a down yet he looks better

You can be the best player developer on planet earth, the best culture in CFB, but outside of those 2 things what are the coaches doing to attract top talent?

The O-line recruiting is the most evident problem in recruiting deficiencies. It’s atrocious, because apparently none of the guys can block Temple or Houston but, “BB is the best developer in CFB”
Not including transfers OU has signed 12 O-linemen in last 4 years.
2021-(1) 4 star transferred
(1) 3 star

2022-(2) 4 star OL

2023- (3) 4 star OL 1 transferred
(1) 3 star

2024-(2) 4 star OL
(2) 3 star OL

You’re telling me BB hasn’t had time to develop any of these? Our O-line didn’t just underperform, they looked extremely sloppy and lazy. Like they’ve never done this kind of stuff before.

Defense is the only group that has been recruited consistently and developed properly in last 2 years and they’re still missing out on the best players. The ones we have are making mistakes that other teams don’t make.

OU, as of right now would lose to the teams everyone laughs at on social media. Florida, ND, A&M, FSU, Colorado.

Everything Matters

Well Sooner fans here we are in the SEC. Time to evaluate before our first conference game! Offensively oh my we need everything! For starters the offensive line is bad in a line of scrimmage league. W/o a good line you’re struggling. Needed better OL and more recruits but we didn’t spend NIL money now we pay the price. BB only recruited lik 2 recruits in 21 and not much better til this year. BB is the one I like for developing but he needs money cause that’s the world we live in. Demarco needs more explosive backs home run types the WRs need more speed and size to gain separation. The offensive scheme needs updated an identity. Why do you let a heisman candidate traffic out for a rookie? Manning stayed at tx. The defense is a lot closer to being SEC ready! Need some depth there. Hoping kicking game still questionable. I like a lot of things culture hard practices etc. a lot better than Riley the Wiley coyote! If you had an OC like him but BV defensive now ur talking. Need more playmakers and big uglies to be where we want to be.
