Monday Notes...

Alright guys, spoken to numerous players as well as sources on what has happened this weekend and shortly I'll get into some notes on some prospects but first I wanted to start on some of the general feelings, conversations.

First, I just can't state it enough...these kids aren't looking down on Oklahoma for losing this game. They've all lost, and they've all lost to teams who weren't as talented as they were - they know it is football and it happens. Does it help? Of course not but every one I've talked to has been vehement that this didn't impact their thinking at all.

The other thing I came away with is how many guys love what Oklahoma is doing with the culture from California, Texas, and beyond...the Sooners really made people feel at home - in fact one of the Mater Dei prospects said the famous words 'felt like home' which I think is always a tipoff of a school they are going to seriously consider.

*That player? Weekend offer Jordon Davison of Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei. The nation's No. 18 overall prospect loved his time around the Sooner coaches.

"It went great, it felt like home," Davison said. "Everyone was very welcoming."

Davison really enjoyed his time with Demarco Murray and though he didn't exactly say it, I'd think a return trip in the future is completely possible, maybe even probable.

**Another Mater Dei prospect who loved his visit to Norman was fellow new offer Nasir Wyatt the big-time outside linebacker for the Monarchs.

"It went great, the OU fanbase was live and the atmosphere in Norman was even more crazy," Wyatt said. "On top of that the staff was amazing, (they) really made me feel at home and my talk with Coach (Brent) Venables went perfect.

"He's really a great person and I love how with him it is more than just football, he really wants to better you as a human being.

"I'm really glad I decided to make the trip."

If there was any player that wasn't 100-percent unconcerned with the loss to Kansas State, it was Wyatt but even with that he was clear that it was something the Sooners could prove was nothing more than a blip.

"Yea it was an unexpected loss, but they just didn’t play their best football as long as they build from this lost they will be fine."

***A guy from a bit closer to Norman who loved what he saw is Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy Rivals100 linebacker Payton Pierce.

"It couldn’t have went better. I had a great time," Pierce said.

And as for the game and any potential ill-feelings about the trip?

"Yea it was a tough night on that end but I know they will get a whole lot better from here. It was just one those nights no one ever wants to have."

I continue to feel good about my forecast for Pierce to Oklahoma.

****Staying in the Lone Star State I caught up with Katy (Texas) Jordan 2025 Rivals100 wide receiver Andrew Marsh who arrived to Norman fresh off an emphatic win over Katy ISD rival Paetow.

"It was everything," Marsh said. "From the time we pulled up on campus we saw tailgating everywhere. I showed my mom the people were in RV and setup like what we use to do at the Texans game.

"We rode the shuttle to the school and we got a chance to witness the walk from upstairs.

"I got so excited then"

Guys, got a lot more coming, searching for a bit more on Peyton Bowen but what I have heard remains confident...just bear with me, I need some sleep after a long weekend.

Clips of our coaches exploding

Does anyone have good clips of our coaches freaking out in practice or on the sideline?

I want to see our staff come unglued like Muschamp and Saban. I feel like BV/Chavis/Schmidtty definitely have some good videos out there that could fire me up right now, this was one of the main things I was looking forward too with our new staff...

Lebby

Can someone explain the philosophy of our playcaller in the second half? Why did we decide to force the run on second and long? That, of course, set up the behind the line of scrimmage throws on third and long. Did we not punish them in the first half with major throws up the field? I believe DG only had about 25 yards passing in the third quarter. Sometimes you have to outscore the other team to win the game. This was obviously one of those games!

Vasek on Orangebloods

This is their latest comment on Vasek in their War Room last night. I am not certain what part of this has him trending up, but OK.

DE Colton Vasek (OU commit) – Vasek made waves a couple weeks ago when he showed up for the Bama game, and that visit garnered even more attention since OB had been hearing rumors for a while that his Oklahoma commitment wasn’t etched in stone. Vasek downplayed the significance of that visit on social media and someone close to him did the same to OB directly. Texas will continue to work here in case something changes with Vasek and Oklahoma but we’ve also heard that it’s no guarantee UT would even be the choice if he did decide to make a switch (think Oregon). Getting him on campus was a positive so we’ll call this one trending up but I’d caution everyone from getting too excited just yet. TRENDING - UP

Monday Notes...(UPDATE - 8:41a)

UPDATE: 8:41a - Alright, I am not changing my pick, but it's largely because I deserve the "L'.

Pretty much going to be a huge shock if it isn't Alabama.

ORIGINAL: *Alright guys, I know everyone is waiting for something concrete from Tyler (Texas) Legacy Rivals250 defensive end Jordan Renaud.

Unfortunately, based on what I've heard it sounds like Oklahoma is still waiting as well.

He's set to announce tomorrow morning but it sounds like he's not told either staff of his plans. That said, I'd heard plenty about him hinting about the Tide early last week. However, it's just hard to ignore how Oklahoma has closed with guys like Colton Vasek and Anthony Evans...I'm just not quite ready to close the door here - especially when he hasn't done so either.

I want to continue to be clear, I'm betting on Alabama right now but nothing tomorrow should surprise anyone - I'll let you know if I hear something new first thing in the morning.

**Similarly I know a lot of people are looking to hear of some groundbreaking news with Lincoln (Neb.) East Rivals100 athlete Malachi Coleman. From everything I've gathered that just isn't likely to be the way this all plays out.

He's going to play the waiting game and I think give considerable consideration to whatever becomes of Mickey Joseph. If he stays in Lincoln, I've heard more than one person this weekend tell me that the Huskers are going to be tough to beat - a sentiment that I think both @Eddie_Rado and @BPrzybylo shared after visiting with him on Thursday night.

Still though, there's ample reason to think that he'll have to eventually choose between a Joseph-less Nebraska and Oklahoma - who he just watched thoroughly dominate the Huskers - and maybe that's a race you all will see the Sooners win. Just be patient, this is a chase I expect to carry on for a while longer.

***In spite of what David Hicks had to say when I spoke to him Thursday about his plans to announce at the All-American game, I continue to hear from multiple sources that 'it sounds like October', so keep an eye as the Sooners may have a fast-coming verdict from the five-star defensive lineman.

Another interesting tidbit?

"I wouldn't be shocked if that's his last trip to College Station," a source said.

It was a musing as much as a statement of fact but that's the feeling many have about the size of Oklahoma's lead at the moment.

I'm hoping to have the start of the visitor list up in the morning along with MMI, and plenty more.

3 hypothetical q’s

1.) If OU ever played an international game where would you want it played and in what venue?

2.) Would you swap out all 4 road victories in Knoxville, South Bend, Tallahassee, and Columbus over the past decade for a Natty in 03, 04, or 08?

3.) With 9 conference games becoming a likely reality do you want annual Bedlam if it means the end of marquee home and home with teams from the other P5’s?
