Coaches get to do it all again next year

Any Freshman that shows promise like Stone etc. these coaches will have to re-recruit them all over again and figure out how to pay them more NIL to keep them plus recruit the next class. What a joke college football is right now. I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to do this nonstop as a head coach.

Sources say Harbaugh, whose current deal runs through 2026, received an offer from Michigan for a 10-year, $125-million contract extension that would make him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football. Yet there is a caveat, and it's NFL-related. If he signed the deal -- which he has not yet done -- Harbaugh would agree not to entertain or accept an NFL job for the 2024 season. The NFL clause would be one season only, but that's apparently been enough to drag out the process.

Starting center in '24?

I can do a workable 2 deep on the OL for next year, except for center. I see true soph Joshua Bates (good size at 6'3, 315) but does he start and who backs him up or starts instead?

OUI Survivor Pool - Endgame

Let's cut straight to the chase and talk about how this is going to work. There are 21 of you that haven't yet been eliminated. Of those 21, two are currently ahead of the pack:
Each of these two competitors has Washington remaining. Thus, if Washington wins, one of these two contestants will be our champion, and the rest of you can wait for next year.

However, there is (regretfully) a very real chance that Washington fails to beat Texas, meaning that the two aforementioned Survivors actually made it no further than the other 19 of you. Thus, all 21 players will have a chance to submit a provisional tie-breaker pick. In the spirit of the Survivor Pool, the object will be to forecast when all four of the various undefeated teams will fall (if at all). As an example, if you wanted to be really chalky and follow the Vegas odds, your answer would look like this:
  • Michigan - Does Not Lose
  • Washington - Loses Semifinal
  • FSU - Loses Bowl
  • Liberty - Loses Bowl
I'll award one point for every team whose demise (or lack thereof) you accurately predicted. I'll also award @Klsparks11 and @StlSooner19 a 1-point bonus for still having a bullet in the chamber (after all, the regular season has to matter, right?). Post your picks in the thread below!

DrummBeat: Could OU go after a transfer QB in portal?

As you have seen on X (Twitter), former Texas and Nebraska QB Casey Thompson is entering the portal (my tweet linked below). This is something Charles Thompson discussed with me at the 5A state title game and said they were leaning on transferring from FAU then.

Over the last few weeks they have been deliberating on whether they truly wanted to go that route, and even turned down a possibility to be drafted by the XFL in their draft. A few of their teams showed strong interest in Thompson as their QB.

In the end, the thought was that they wanted to get healthy and go through the pro day at whatever school they end up, and on top of that, they are also looking at being a PWO and not taking a scholarship.

So, how does this fit into OU and how is this relevant for our board? Well, there is hope on the Thompson side, and there has been some buzz from sources I have spoke with in other places, that OU would be open to a PWO QB to come in and help with depth. Especially one with experience and just a year left on their eligibility. So, with that said, the Sooners are once again a team to watch here, as is Nebraska and possibly a Big 12 program or two.

Thompson and OU make sense this time around. You get a PWO QB that isn’t looking to start, unless he somehow beat out Jackson Arnold (he is the starter next year and that’s understood by everyone), and one of your backups would have over 5,000 yards passing and 50+ TDs heading into the SEC.

At the end of the day, Thompson won’t be cleared with his knee until after spring ball, but would be able to practice outside of doing live team drills. Also, Thompson has played in a handful of systems and is a quick learner with the goal of being a coach when his time is up.

I say all of that to note the reality that OU is a team I think should be on watch here, but it’s not a certainty just yet. We will have more once it’s official with Thomson entering portal and if things start to move.
