Hatchett Boys

Did a little of my own digging about these two guys and I do hope they both make their way to OU. Adding two guys that started as freshman has got to help. what really got my attention, though, was a quote from their mother asking the “keyboard warriors” to leave them alone while they make their decisions. I have a son who’s a freshman in college and I sympathize with her. Seeing the horrible things people who have never even met her kids are posting about them has got to be heart-breaking. Anyway…I hope they end up Sooners, but if not, I wish them well and hope they make the best decision for them and their mom.

Latest on the two portal OL targets (Wed 3:15pm)

If Lance Heard picks OU at this point, it’ll be because Bill Bedenbaugh brought it on home. Sources have indicated to me that both Tennessee and Ole Miss have sweetened the pot significantly for the former five-star OT. The Sooners have done about all they’re willing to do, much as in the case of Chris McClellan, and now simply await the decision. Conversations with Heard and his camp have been ongoing, but the one and only question is whether Heard is willing to make some concessions in the short term for the potential long-term benefits of developing under Bedenbaugh.

The same goes for Terrence Ferguson, as multiple sources have noted that he’s got the same handler as one Walter Nolen. I want to emphasize that Oklahoma is NOT out for either player, as both have continued to be receptive to the Sooners’ overtures. But it’s worth understanding that OU isn’t going to budge on their principles when it comes to NIL. It’s a take-it-or-leave-it proposition at this point.

Caiden Woullard took it. McClellan left it. Deion Burks took it. Geno VanDeMark left it.

I can’t tell you what the outcome is here, but hopefully that helps to shed some light on what OU is up against.

Boise State's Spencer Danielson dishes on Zac Alley: ‘That’s a smart football coach’

I caught up with Boise State coach Spencer Danielson, where he talked with me about Zac Alley's development and why he's ready to be OU's new co-defensive coordinator:

On Zalance Heard and a couple other portal targets (UPDATE Mon 9:05am)

I’m starting to believe. Multiple sources have indicated to me that Oklahoma has the inside track to beat out Tennessee and the rest of the crowd for the former five-star lineman.

I’ve covered enough portal recruitments to know that there’s plenty of time and space for things to change on a dime, especially with such a highly valued player. But the optimism is real with the former LSU Tiger.

**** UPDATE 8:50pm ****

It does not sound like Oklahoma will end up with Terrence Ferguson… but I doubt any of y’all will care as long as the Sooners can pull Heard. I was also told that the Bedenbaugh factor has been VERY significant here. Yes, Heard would get a check at OU, and that much should be obvious. But it’s not as if the Sooners pulled a Godfather and decided to make him an offer he couldn’t refuse. Beyond the money, Oklahoma is selling development and a future in the NFL, and that has hit home with Heard and his camp. Bedenbaugh is what has given OU the leg up on the competition.

It’s gonna be a tough scene for the Bedenbaugh dissenters if the Sooners close the deal.

There should also be good portal news coming tonight — not related to the offensive line — as long as the OU creative department can finish up an edit by EOD.

**** UPDATE 11:25pm ****

The good news I teased will drop tomorrow.

**** UPDATE Mon 9:05am ****

And just like that, overnight, there is more optimism on Ferguson. I’m still skeptical, but just figured I would let y’all know there is a chance, and more of a chance than there seemed to be as of last check with sources. OU can haz elite OL transfers?!

Belichick and Saban

I can’t believe that Joe C and Harroz aren’t trying to bring Saban and Belichick to OU. I mean I know that they are both defensive coaches but it doesn’t matter. I know it might cost more than $40 million a year but hey, we have some oil money somewhere don’t we? I know they’re considered the greatest of all time, but we’re OU!

If we’re serious fans and we want to compete in the SEC we HAVE to get these two! If Venables is the team-first guy he says he is, he would step aside and coach linebackers, maybe even be an analyst. Maybe they can finally bring us an OL coach who can recruit a decent OL and develop them. I mean I know BB puts players in the league, but um, he still sucks.

I would keep Emmitt Jones as WR Coach and have everyone else be analysts. I’m sure they would bring in Tom Brady as OC, can you imagine the QBs that would be beating down the door? We would get every player in HS & the portal we would want and we would win every game by 60.

I say we go all the way or just forget going to the SEC. If you disagree with me, you’re not a real Sooner fan, you aren’t serious about ending our 24 year Natty drought, you wear crimson-colored underwear, you’re a stupid sunshine pumper and you should just be a Poke fan!!! Flame away!!
