The ignorance and laziness of the national sports media is exposed by the “OU is the next Nebraska” narrative and “USC is all that” narrative. Dudes didn’t understand the OU/Lincoln parameters and are clueless as to the significance of recruiting bases and the significance of historical blue blood status. Historically factual, Nebraska and Texas are not OU’s level of blue blood, though Neb (benefited) and UT benefits from the State of Texas and State of Oklahoma recruiting bases.

When departing the B12, Neb lost the ridiculously rich Texas and Oklahoma recruiting base. When departing the B12, OU retains the ridiculously rich Texas and Oklahoma recruiting base and adds the equally ridiculously rich SEC recruiting base. Plus, OU is like Notre Dame (though OU is historically better –“Play like a Champion Today”), and the OU name also demands status and respect. Accordingly, any ignorant, and or lazy national journalist who proclaims OU as the “little brother to Texas”, is either willfully ignorant of CFB history and accomplishments (appealing to a larger media consumer audience), or un-willfully ignorant and lazy, and just kind of stupid. (See Heisman's, NC’s, conference championships, AP top-5 finishes, etc, etc, etc…). Texas, in fact, is OU’s little brother; as is every team, save Alabama (perhaps equal) and Notre Dame (perhaps equal).

Accordingly, the same national media were clueless and lazy regarding what OU was trying to tell them regarding the Ponzi Scheme King, Lincoln Riley (brilliant offense and incompetent Defense and Special Teams) and chalked it up to OU sour grapes… Unfortunately for the lazy, ignorant national media, just like Madoff, Riley could not keep his Ponzi scheme hidden forever; just as the national media cannot keep their ignorance and laziness hidden long-term.
