Would have posted this along with all of Drumm’s fresh intel on Williams (which you can find here), but figured it made more organizational sense to package this into a separate note. We’re told by multiple sources that the Sooners are preparing to host Michigan State DL transfer Simeon Barrow on a visit. Date isn’t finalized but it’s expected to be next weekend.
This is not necessarily a pivot from Damonic Williams, but more of an insurance policy, if you will. At this point, folks in the Switzer Center expect that it’ll be a while before Williams makes his decision, and that there will be multiple other visits that precede the commitment. Essentially, now that he’s left town, OU is preparing for this to be a long haul to the finish line. And obviously, there is no longer the same degree of confidence that Williams ends up picking Oklahoma.
Thus, in the meantime, the Sooners will take a shot with Barrow and see how things go. He’s a three-year starter with 10.5 career sacks and 18.5 career tackles for loss, so this is not a JAG by any stretch of the imagination. If there’s another defensive tackle in the portal that’s comparable to Williams, this is him. We’ll keep you updated.
