Skip Johnson and the Sooners ended their four game stretch in the DFW area with a hard fought loss to an undefeated Dallas Baptist team.

John Spikerman started the game with a lead off walk against DBU starting pitcher, Nick Wilson. Spikerman advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI single by Bryce Madron to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Sooners.

In the bottom of the first inning, Sooner starting pitcher Grant Stevens gave up a lead off walk to Nathan Humphreys. He proceeded to get two quick outs, but could not get out of the inning without some damage being done. DBU second baseman Miguel Santos hit a two-run homer that traveled an estimated 404 feet. It was his second home run of the season. This gave the Patriots a 2-1 lead over the Sooners.

The Sooners quickly responded with a home run of their own. In the top of the second inning, Jackson Nicklaus hit a solo HR to right field that would tie the game at 2-2.

DBU starter Nick Wilson was chased out of the game in the top of the third inning after giving up back-to-back singles by John Spikerman and Bryce Madron. River Ridings replaced Wilson on the mound. Ridings got DBU out of the jam without giving up any runs.

DBU scored three runs against Grant Stevens in the bottom of the fourth inning. The scoring started on an RBI triple by Luke Heefner. That was followed up by a pair of RBI singles by Nathan Humphreys and Ethan Mann to give the Patriots a 5-2 lead. Will Carsten entered in the fifth inning to replace Stevens.

DBU added another run in the bottom of the fifth by way of an RBI single from Alex Pendergast. That made the score 6-2 with the Patriots in front.

The Sooners added two runs of their own in the top of the sixth. Michael Snyder tripled to right field and scored on a wild pitch from Jerrod Jenkins. Jenkins then walked Jakcson Nicklaus and was taken out of the game. Dillon Haines came into the game and let Nicklaus score on a wild pitch. That made the score 6-4.

It did not take for the Patriots to respond. With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Ethan Mann hit a solo home run off of Will Carsten to increase the DBU lead to 3 runs.

However, the Sooners would not go away. With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Michael Snyder hit a two-run home run to deep left field for his first home run in a Sooner uniform. A few pitches later, Jackson Nicklaus went deep to dead center field for his second home run of the game, which tied the game at 7 a piece. Both home runs came against Patriot pitcher Dillon Haines.

Just when the Sooners looked like they were in good position, DBU responded once again. Jayce Miner came in to pitch for the Sooners in the bottom of the seventh. He walked the first batter he faced, but got the next two batters out. Skip Johnson called on true freshman Jacob Gholston to get the third out of the inning. After Gholston issued a four-pitch walk, he was removed from the game and replaced by Dylan Crooks. The first batter that Crooks faced reached via an infield single. With two outs in the inning and the bases loaded, Nathan Humphreys stepped to the plate and hammered a grand slam to dead center field to give the Patriots an 11-7 lead.

The Sooners were unable to score any runs in the eighth or ninth innings and lost by a final score of 11-7.

The Sooners move to 2-2 on the young season and their next game will be on Friday at 4:00 pm in Norman against Wright State.
