The future of Gary Patterson as an analyst at Texas is questionable at this moment.

Patterson accepted the role as an analyst on Steve Sarkisian’s staff in January 2022. He quickly became someone Sarkisian could consult before and during the season. Patterson also helped revamp the Longhorn defense before the 2022 season.

“One of the things that he really helped with was playing match quarters,” Texas defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski said before the Alamo Bowl. “He's seen all the issues that teams try to attack you with. He was really good at bringing those to our attention. So, we’re seeing them in practice before playing the game. Sometimes they showed up and sometimes they didn't, but the guys are seeing all these issues and they're able to self-correct because they know what offenses can do to try and attack match-quarters coverage.”

However, Patterson has not indicated he will return for the 2023 season.

Multiple people associated with the program have told us they do not expect Patterson to be with the team this season. Patterson showed up for work in January and was helping with recruiting visits before signing day. His future with Texas has been not been finalized.

We will keep you posted.
