I believe many here appear to be unaware of this salient fact:

When Lebby was hired, it was on strict condition that he would not allow his affiliation with Briles to be a distraction to the program.

It was widely understood that Lebby was a supporter of Briles and thought be had been unfairly treated. So situations exactly like this one were discussed prior to him being offered the job.

That is why both BV and Joe C. were caught off guard. It's not because any of them have strong opinions about Briles or what happened at Baylor (although I'm sure they do). That's not this issue. It's because Lebby let Briles situation distract from the team when he promised he wouldn't do that.

It's a betrayal and that is why BV looked like someone punched him in the gut when he learned about it in the presser.

People here forget that when BV made this hire, it was heavily scrutinized. He went out on a limb to get Joe C to allow him to make the hire. And this is how he gets treated.

If Lebby was going to let this become an issue, if he felt he would be betraying his family by agreeing to these terms, he shouldn't have taken the job.

He had a choice. He went back on his word.
