Last year I gave Venables an “A” in recruiting, representing OU, dealing with the media, transfer portal, etc, BUT I gave he and his staff a “D” for game day coaching. This year, I again give him an “A” for the recruiting, etc. BUT a “C” for game day coaching, and only because we beat UT!
To go 3-3 after starting 7-0??? We were clearly A LOT better than KU, OSU, and AZ! Just bad preparation, bad game plans, penalties, turnovers, Freeman playing over the stable of bigger, stronger options we had??? Bad clock management, wearing down our defense in the fourth quarter every time! RB rotation, OL indecisions, never establishing a dependable running game (at OU!!!).
I like Venables, But next year better show tons of game day coaching improvement. I believe we have talent! I’m not sold yet that Venables will be the guy? There are a lot of young up and coming coaches out there! He is not irreplaceable. Boomer Sooner
