Oklahoma is starting off hot in 2026 with their first commit of the class and it’s a big one, as 2026 four-star and Rivals100 RB Jonathan Hatton Jr announces his commitment to Oklahoma via X.com today.

As OUinsider reported last week, Hatton Jr was visiting the Sooners last weekend and the visit obviously went really well. That visited added to several others that Hatton Jr had already taken to Norman over the last eight months.

In speaking to sources in Norman today, and shortly after On3 Hayes Fawcett tweeted out the news a commit was coming soon, I was told, “He was very involved on the visit and seemed to feel at home with everything (OU). His family did too,” the source said. “Then he told staffers he wanted to be a Sooner. (OU) felt good but this early in the process you never really expect that, so it was a big deal.”

This was a shock to even those of us at OUinsider, with a few other targets in 2024 and 2025 that we had our eyes on. Still, Demarco Murray continues to build a strong contingent of talent in the Sooners’ backfield. Murray also continues to prove that he is one of the best RB recruiters in college football having landed 2024 Rivals100 RB Taylor Tatum, three-star RB Xavier Robinson, and getting a P5 talent like Andy Bass to come in as a preferred walk-on. That’s not to mention the other four-star RB’s that that Murray has landed in 2022 and 2023 classes.

As for Hatton Jr, he is a top five RB in 2026, with potential to be a five-star by the time he signs on the dotted line in December of 2025.

Hatton Jr chose the Sooners over Nebraska, Baylor and Texas Tech. The 2026 four-star will be getting a ton of offers over the next few years and it will be up to Oklahoma to hold on so stay tuned.

UPDATE

Writers Edit
: Quote from Hatton Jr on why he chose the Sooners, “It truly feels like home,” Hatton said of OU and his commitment. “The relationship with Coach [Demarco] Murray and everything the program offers to its players on and off the field (is why I committed to OU).”
