Oklahoma announces return of Zac Selmon to school's athletics dept. as senior associate athletics director/chief of operations.

Selmon served the last year as associate athletics director and special assistant to the athletics director at the University of North Carolina. At UNC, his duties included monitoring and tracking the athletics department's strategic plan, representing the athletics director at meetings and on committees, assisting with internal communications, serving as liaison with external groups such as the ACC, NCAA and NACDA, and administering the department's executive and senior staff meetings.

Prior to working at North Carolina, Selmon spent six years in the OU Athletics Department. He started as a graduate assistant in 2009 before holding the titles of assistant director of development, associate director of development and director of capital gifts.

"From the day we appointed him as a graduate assistant and then hired him full-time in our development office, we could see Zac would be a rising star in our profession," said Castiglione. "We are thrilled to have him back at Oklahoma. Already, he has gained extensive experience in development and internal operations, which makes him uniquely qualified to take on this role as a member of my senior leadership team.

"He'll contribute to the department's overall direction and culture through responsibilities related to management of our strategic planning process and implementation of specific initiatives, as well as assisting me in the strengthening of key stakeholder relationships, serving as a sport administrator and facilitating additional projects all geared to developing a world-class experience for our student-athletes."

Selmon indicated he is eager to get back to work for the Sooners.

"First, I would like to thank Joe Castiglione for the amazing opportunity to rejoin the OU community," said Selmon. "These are exciting times in intercollegiate athletics, and I am overjoyed to help carry out the game plan Joe has set forth to lead OU Athletics into the future.

"The University of Oklahoma is a special place with special people. It's an honor to return home to Norman and serve a world-class institution and a model intercollegiate athletics department. Over the last four decades, OU has been a pillar in my family, and my wife Rachel and I look forward to being a part of OU's continued tradition of excellence."

A four-year dean's list member as a student at Wake Forest, Selmon graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in religion and international studies in 2007. He was a four-year starter at tight end on the Demon Deacons' football team.

In 2010, Selmon graduated from OU with a master's degree in education and an emphasis in intercollegiate athletics administration.

Selmon and his sister Shannon Selmon-Carter, who played basketball at OU, co-founded the Shine Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving those in need, with an emphasis on children's projects in West Africa. They are still heavily involved with the organization.
