I know we will be having these types of thread until we are sick of seeing them. But who is in your top 5 defensive coordinator list that is a realistic option for Lincoln Riley?
Mine:
1. Alex Grinch, he is young (37); played at one of the most successful programs in Mount Union. He has successfully coached against offenses that are similar to what we see in the Big 12.
Best put though, he is just a Co-DC at Ohio St. Throw him a suitcase of money and he might come to OU.
2. Pete Golding, another young coach. He is currently the Co-DC at Alabama. Previously he was the DC at UTSA and helped lead them to a top 10 defense last year...against mainly spread teams.
3. Jimmy Lake, this one could possibly be hard to pull off. It would take 1.2+ million to get him. But he has led Washington to some damn good defenses the past few years against spread offenses.
4. Mike Houston, currently serving as the HC at James Madison. He is on 46 years old and has had success at the smaller schools. Has led JMU to a 32-4 record and a national championship in his 3 seasons as a head coach
5. Randy Shannon. He is the oldest in my top 5, but he has proven himself as a top assistant ever since his debacle at Miami. Currently at UCF. Before then he was the DC at Florida where he had them in the S&P top 10 both years there.
Honorable Mentions:
Bob Diaco (depending on how the defense responds to him)
Ruffin McNeil (depending on how the defense responds to him)
Jim Leavitt
Tim DeRuyter
