Yet more Super Bowl trivia...

If you give everybody the hint that he was a backup receiver, most who are old enough and remember the game will get it.

Another hint: he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated the next week.

I'll guess Bart Starr and Lance Rentzel? I believe Lenny Dawson started for the Chiefs on the other side, but can't remember a receiver.

That would be Max McGee, who by all reports partied all night the night before, expecting to ride the bench and work on his tan. But Boyd Dowler's shoulder was bothering him and Max entered during the second drive. I think the first touchdown was the won he kind of tipped to himself under the goal line goal posts, and then pulled it in. McGee had two or three td receptions that day, despite being less than 100% Maybe it relaxed him.

Lance Rentzel played for Dallas.

I wasn't comfortable with the Rentzel pick from the get go, but I had to make a guess...LOL

I just googled the game. It was a blast from the past reading all the star players that played in that game. BTW, I was only 14 years old when I watched it, so I'm surprised I could remember Len Dawson.

One name that stuck out was the kicker, Don Chandler. He actually owned a Spanish style home here in Catoosa and I once looked at to buy. It was over budget. I site built a home that replicated some of the features I saw in his house. He was a non-paid kicking coach for Tulsa U at one time, but I don't know why. The side winder style had surpassed the straight line about that time.......

Super Bowl 1 was the first NFL game I remember watching. I was 6 years old. I became a Packer fan during that game, been one ever since. I thought their uniforms were cool. ;)
