*So one of the real talks of the week has been around Irving (Texas) Ranchview three-star hback commitment Michael Henderson. For those that don't know the long-time Sooner pledge took a somewhat surprise official visit to Georgia last weekend.
I saw him on Thursday night and gave him some grief for not letting me know and he told me "I wasn't keeping it a secret I just didn't even speak about it."
And that reality carried over to Oklahoma's staff from what I was told. Basically it sounds like Henderson was just about in Athens, Ga. when he informed Oklahoma - presumably Shane Beamer that he was taking the visit.
As I've always said that's never a good sign.
And the initial word I got was that the was some legitimate concern.
Though, like others, I was a bit consternated over what about the Bulldogs had caught his eye.
"When was the last time a Georgia tight end did anything," a source asked with more than a hint of irritation.
However, as time went on it seems as though Oklahoma was able to put the concerns to rest.
"Everything is going to be fine," another source said.
Something that was echoed by Henderson himself.
"I’m still solid with OU. (I) just wanted to see something else," Henderson said.
It was always tough to imagine Henderson defecting from Oklahoma but it was an interesting weekend.
**Another player that some have wondered if he might be moving in another direction is former Washington Husky commitment Jacobe Covington. I know I've been telling you that I've heard Oklahoma isn't really sure what they want to do with him but earlier this week I started to hear talk that, at the very least, Alex Grinch was speaking with the Rivals250 defensive back.
"Yeah, we've been talking," Covington said.
However in talking to some there is still some doubt about just how serious the Sooners are going to get. Right now this feels like an Arizona State situation.
***It's time to make an admission, I've become an Astros fan.
I don't know how it happened, I don't know when it happened, but it's happened and I want to own it.
I grew up with no real team, I just kind of floated around before my dad finally had enough and told me to pick a team - it was 1995 and the Marlins and Rockies were coming into existence.
As you all know, I'm a Devil's Advocate kind of guy so I take the Marlins because EVERYONE in Oklahoma has decided they like the Rockies. My nature as a contrarian is only confirmed by the fact that I LOOOOOOOVE Denver, the Rockies would have made more sense, but I digress.
Then after the Jeter group purchased the Marlins and it was yet again sold off for no apparent reason and the entire city of Miami was (again) duped, I decided I was out, I just couldn't root for a franchise that was solely interest in finances and very little in actual success and had spit on it's fans time and time again.
I chose to ride with the Cardinals, my dad is a lifelong and AVID fan and I had just had my first child and thought 'this will be a great way for Lanie, my dad, and myself to bond'. Well, it just never took. I tried and I tried, I'd watch games, even some with my dad and I just couldn't make myself care about the Cardinals.
As I've mentioned on the pod several times I've gone to numerous Astros games, dating back to when they were just drafting Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman and were getting the No. 1 spot in back to back years because they were TURRRRRRIBLE.
I liked those teams, Tiffany was going through school, we didn't have much money and we didn't need it because NO ONE was going to those games. This was a team in which Hunter Pence was the franchise's star. That's not a recipe for success.
I've never cared for this city, and it's sports teams were definitely a foundational piece of that dislike. I'm a Colts fan to the core and whenever they play the Texans you can COUNT on me wearing my shirts around town and this week was no different. The Rockets were always a rival to the Thunder - who in spite of their decade of awfulness to come, I'll always be a fan of.
So those two were just never going to be possible.
But as time has gone on the Astros have grown and grown on me and I'm finally just going to own it, I'm an Astros fan - that's my team and it's nice for once in my life to root for a team that is actually in a 500 miles vicinity of my home.
The interesting thing is I'd almost been hoping (but not really) that the Astros would get knocked out and I could make this announcement later and not have to live with the shame of being a 'front runner' but I guess a game 1 loss is enough and the strain of carrying this news around has become more that I can bear.
So, call me names, mock me...I'm here for it.
