*Alright we'll start with one of the more interesting news pieces that emerged yesterday, that is the buzz that Camar Wheaton and Alabama may be parting ways.
And while I know many of you can feel my oncoming bout of depression at the idea of covering Wheaton and a recruitment again I also know that you just don't care so I checked around a bit more. Within that it sounds as though some around Wheaton have tried to reach out to Oklahoma and some other programs.
However, it sounds like Oklahoma was prepared for this eventuality - something that we told you all would happen when Wheaton signed last year - and is electing to pass.
It's not something that has been said to me in so many words but my understanding is this is something of a 'you recruit your own problems' that Brent Venables discussed in his introductory press conference. I want to be clear that I've never had bad interactions with Wheaton, he's always been ok for me to deal with, but some around Tuscaloosa made it seem as though Wheaton's buy in maybe wasn't always where it needed to be.
**Just a short note on the ongoing saga of Jaxson Dart and Michael Trigg. I've talked to just about everyone I can think to talk to and it just feels like everyone is waiting - though some are wondering if USC has convinced them to wait a moment and see what happens with Caleb Williams - with the growing rumors of Wisconsin's role in his recruitment.
But in speaking with a source close to things in the Land of Troy, the belief for the past week has been that Ole Miss would eventually be the choice "but the fact that they haven't announced anything (as of Monday) makes me think Oklahoma is really giving them a lot to think about".
We'll keep watching as there have even been some rumors that Oklahoma has backed away a bit to let Dart and Trigg do what they are going to do.
***And we'll start with some names we've confirmed for this weekend's junior day event.
Jackson Arnold - QB - Denton (Texas) Guyer - OU COMMIT - RIVALS250
Josh Bates - OL - Durango, Colo. - OU COMMIT
Cedric Baxter - RB - Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater - RIVALS100
Jacobe Johnson - DB - Mustang, Okla. - RIVALS250
Micah Tease - S - Tulsa (Okla.) Booker T. Washington - RIVALS250
Obviously there is a lot more to confirm and we're checking around through the rest of the week - we've gotten in the habit of doing it more than once to avoid having to confirm twice, ha.
****A name to keep an eye on as a potential new offer for the Sooners? How about San Antonio Brennan safety Tyler Turner.
The current Baylor commitment has seen his name grow considerably as of late and don't be surprised to see him in Norman on March 5, a weekend that could see him joined by Rivals100 offensive tackle Cayden Green and his teammate Isaiah Mozee in what is looking like a somewhat subdued but potentially important visit weekend.
