"They are losing 5 senior starters on offense plus a couple of juniors. Most of the NFL juniors are thought to be on defense. They shouldn't be all that great next season if everyone considering the NFL leaves early."
Buckeye here. Correct about all of the early departures but to be quite honest, the depth on the OSU roster is off the charts. Best I've seen since the Woody Hayes days (been a Buckeye fan since the early 60s) Urban is a recruiting machine BUT that doesn't mean that we will be as good next year, especially early. I hopefully see the Buckeye team next year getting better as the year goes along. We had the luxury this year of rotating a ton of people - especially on the lines
But a great example of the depth was displayed today against ND. We basically had our two AA DLmen out (Washington and Bosa - ejected early) and our other starting DT (Schutt) out with a broken foot. But the 3 freshmen and sophomores that replaced them really didn't miss a beat. The one area of concern - for me anyways - next year is replacing Zeke Elliott. The staff seems pretty high on a kid named Mike Weber but I'm holding judgement until I see him play.
But don't get me wrong, we know we will really have our hands full with the Sooners next year as I believe you guys also return a ton of talent. The two showcase players, however, will be our QBs - probably 2 out of the 3 best (along with Watson of Clemson) in the country. Should be a great game and there's little doubt where ESPN game day will be at on that Saturday.
