I can't watch one more game where OU sits back and gets sliced and diced. I want OU to put pressure on WRs and the QB. I'm waiting to see somebody step up and lay a hat on someone and send a message that Oklahoma wrote the book on pain and destruction.

You have to be very careful with aggressiveness against an option team with a really talented, athletic quarterback. You get out there and end up one on one and miss and the ball carrier can run 50 and score quickly.

I know that calls for aggressive defense is the plea du jour right now, but that doesn't make it the right thing to do. Mike has the same philosophy as Urban Meyer. Coach Meyer referenced his in his weekly presser. "We have to stop the run first." Urban also said that the Stoops brothers defense will not let you run inside. Now it can happen if players get tired, or the starting inside linebackers aren't out there. Part of the reason that works is because they choose their times to be aggressive.

And against a really fine runner at quarterback, you would much rather play a lot more zone than man. When you're really aggressive, you have to play a lot more man defense. It puts the DB's backs to the quarterback too much of the time, and makes you a lot more vulnerable to the long quarterback run.

The goal is going to be to get them in third down and throw downs, and then really get after their quarterback. I think there are some really good athletes or OUr defense that have been here less than a year, or in some cases less than half a year. And those guys are just now getting how it fits together. Some of them will have a chance to make some big contributions this Saturday night. The Lackawanna guys are coming on. We'll have at least three true freshmen this Saturday on defense making their first important contribution..

I hope Gallimore gets some more playing time. He seems to be that young wrecking crew guy the Sooners have needed. Turn him loose and force some turnovers.

"Exactly right. An over aggressive defense is not necessarily the best solution for the read-option offense that Barrett and OSU runs. I realize that pressure, pain and destruction are great catch words but in reality, different styles of offense require different solutions."

If a defense disrupts the middle of an offense line, it forces the offense to start to move the pocket. When you can move the pocket to the right or left you are reducing the field and just need to be disciplined to not allow over pursue and keep containment. Squeezing the play and using the sideline as the 12th man. OU has the DL talent to put some pressure on JT.

I think Mike gets complex this weekend, and OSU can't hear and most of it works. If that works, then we take their qb confidence away.

Both of these staffs have spent considerable off season effort on this. It's time to turn it loose, like Seabiscuit in the match race.

Cobb and JT have to prove they can operate on an island. If they can hold up then yes I think you bring all kinds of pressure on JT Barrett.
