Let's get something going here...

Tell me about the Sr that transfered from UofH. How'd that happen? Are the NCAA Basketball rules more lenient, meaning no year/season to sit?

And we have the Big 12 Player of the year? Sweeeet!

OK, so I'm a bandwagon basketball fan. So what. I'm Sooner fan and having a good time watching the tournament. Anyway, I love the antics and celebration of the bench when they show some screen shots.

That lob pass & dunk for # 18 was sweet!

OU is playing with a lot of energy tonight and is taking it to the Spartans. Hopefully they can keep it up for another half. Would be nice if Spangler could contribue with a few points.

From what I can see he's really decent at defensive rebounding. What's his shooting avg ?

Ryan was having a solid season offensively for the first 2/3 of the year. But he has been almost afraid to take any shot recently of more than five feet. Against ISU in the conference semi finals, he was left open for ten footers several times and wouldn't take the shot.

Both of OUr big guy starters were pretty reliable 15 foot shooters early in the year. But not in the last month.

In my opinion this game turned when Kruger put Cousins and Booker into the game with I believe around 5 min to go. MSU went on a run at that point and OU never really recovered. Too bad because OU was good enough to win this game.

he is a forward basically playing a center position. Not really sure why we cannot recruit a big man for the middle. I don't care if he just stands there. The last true center we had (good one) was Stacey King. How many years ago was that?

I've seen Kruger do this time after time Scotts. The other team will go on a 15 - 0 run before Kruger will call a time out.

while we are at it...lets throw him under the bus and talk about how much money he is getting paid.

Great season Sooners!

good grief.........coaches are capable of making bad decisions 83. Questioning a strategy is not throwing anyone under the bus.

that is ok BW...if we would have hit a few shots you probably would have thought he was a hero....and so it goes.

Anyway, back to those that actually want to talk about the game. Anyone know if Spangler has been hurt? He isn't the same player he was earlier in the year. He made some key rebounds but was pretty much nonexistent offensively. Certainly not his fault but some contribution would have been a big help. Too bad we have Thomas for only one year because he is a load.

We lost because we shot poorly from the field. Plain and simple. A bit too much in the way of jump shooting and taking contested shots. Drive and dish and make the extra pass. If we hit anywhere close to a respectable percentage of 3's we're playing Louisville.

No big beefs with our defense and we made our free throws.

Good season guys. The guards will be special next year.

Poor execution down the stretch. But this team exceeded expectations. Hate the loss but Kruger did a fantastic job getting this team this far. I do agree about getting a big man or two.

Big men must be very hard to get since we haven't really had a dominating inside force for quite some time.

What is Spangler's season shooting avg vs his play tonight?

This. Hard to beat a team when only 3 guys contribute. Cousins and Spangler no showed and Booker and the bench did nothing.

Lack of depth was the difference in the game. That, and the fact that MSU kicked our butts on the offensive boards. When you're getting killed on the boards on the defensive end, you can't get your running game going. The worst sequence was when Lon gave Bennett his four or five minute first half appearance, which was necessary to give his bigs some rest.

The bad foul called on Spangler with about seven minutes left in the first half was huge. We were up nine or ten at the time. It ended up four, at least in part because we lost Ryan for the remainder of the half.

You cannot expect Woodard to play 40 minutes against a high level of competition. We have to play Booker and Cousins together when we rest Woodard. I can't remember the last time we recruited a true big man out of high school. Lattin has promise, but he's a four at most. He has some hops, but no width. Their big guys ourplayed our big guys and they had more depth and worse on our guys more.

But the real difference was their ability to play half court offense in the second half. And because they played more guys, they were fresher in the last five minutes. We don't have a guy who can come off the bench and guard somebody with quickness. There is NO WAY, that we shouldn't be able to double team their point guard to keep the ball out of his hands on an inbounds play in the last four minutes.

Keep the ball out of his hands, and you get to foul 50% free throw shooters. Instead, we fouled their two best free throw shooters on a team where three of the guys on the floor are lousy from the line. THey had multiple big strong guys like just about any Big Ten team. And they played good defense against our best two scorers, Hield and Thomas.

We have two decent big guys, both transfers. It is inexcusable to me that we can't recruit a decent high school big at least once every other year. And aren' t there one or two decent of those guys in the state over a four year period.

Just a thought. When was the last time we got a great player from the Dallas area? There are a ton of big guys in Dallas who can freakin' play.

I said in another thread that this would be a half court game and that we couldn't beat MSU in a half court game. And that was the crux of the night.

We play in a conference that has one team with shot blockers and that is Texas. Nobody else has them When we play against somebody with some quality big guys inside, we can't run an offense. But this was about depth. They had it. It was said about OU all year that we didn't. Now that Lon has made a second weekend of the tournament, maybe we can recruit a 6-10 guy who can play at least a little.

When was the last time we had a real college shot blocker?

But this wasn't on Lon. He played the hand he was dealt. MSU was just a better team. The seed difference was about OU doing well in the once again overrated Big XII basketball conference. Michigan State has a coach who is the best of Kelvin Sampson and quality strategician. Toughness is the pride and logo of MSU basketball. It's why they were in their fourth straight Sweet 16. Everybody but Thomas should be back next season. OU should be as good. Everybody else will be a year better.

And maybe Ryan will regain his touch from 15 feet.

Thats a good question and I have no idea. I know this Spangler topic has been discussed many times lately on the Animal but nobody seems to know what happened to him. He seems to have lost all confidence for some reason

I think the point blank shot at the buzzer vrs Iowa State, just never recovered from that.

Spangler lost all his confidence because the guards never give him the ball. Only time he has the ability to score is when he gets an offensive rebound. It's why OU lost the game tonight, settling for contested jumpers instead of getting Spangler involved. I don't blame Spangler...give your bigs some touches.

Guard play and perimeter play were too inconsistent to beat a more talented better coached MSU team.

Great comment. Just about says it all. OU played MSU very tough. A Sweet 16 appearance is a very good season and opened the eyes of a lot of people.

Heild is going to be a monster next season..

Woodard and Cousins need to grow in the "drive and dish" department.

Final Four is a legit possibility next season.

Cousins also needs to become a much better shooter. Most of his shots last night were line drives. Thomas is a senior right? Not sure we have a big man to take his place.

If he does, then so does everbody else. IC was the #1 guard on the team in both overall shooting percentage & 3 poing FG % (he was #1 in the Big 12 there). The one thing in that (shooting) area that he can improve substantially in is free throws, he was pretty mediocre there, especially for a guard.

If you're going to use a 1 game standard, then Buddy needs to improve just as much since he went 3-12 against of all teams, Tech (& it's a good thing for him that that game went OT or he wouldn't have had 2 of those 3 makes). I'm not saying Cousins had a bad game, he certainly did. He had a whole lot of company in that category though.

Ya he had a terrible game as did Booker. IMO Buddy is our best guard by far followed by Woodard. If Booker and Cousins would have contributed at all then we might have beat MS.

Woodard rarely pushes the lane. He needs to penetrate and first look for the pass or work on a free throw range pull up a la Chris Paul.

Lot of time between now and next season for progress. We could have the best back court in the game next year.
