Read this morning that LSU is prepared to buy out Less Smiles' contract ... to the tune of something like $20 million.
Was kinda surprised that it has come to this, but even more so when I read these facts on another web site about Les and his record at the Cajun school:
"Miles, coming to the end of his 11th season at LSU, has won a national championship, two SEC championships and averaged 10 wins per season while producing 64 draft choices.
He has a 110-32 record at LSU, and his .775 winning percentage is the best of any LSU coach -- including Nick Saban (.750) -- in the past century. Overall, Miles has a 60-27 record in SEC play."
I didn't like the a-hole at OSU, but, Jeez, what is required of a coach at a semi-bigtime school like LSU. They're probably not in the top 6 or 7 of anyone's all-time ratings, but they're right on the periphery, probably in the top 10.
A 60-27 record in the SEC is likely the reason for his downfall, if, indeed, he does fall down. Not to mention his poor record against Bama. I can imagine the consequences for any coach at OU having a conference record like that, including more losses to Texas than wins.
LSU is not in the same class, historically, as OU or Bama or Ohio State or USC or Notre Dame (olden days) or Michigan or a couple of other schools. But to average 10 wins a year and still get the boot?
Cajuns need to work on their voodoo.
