Actually, this might be a good move for Mike. Saban has resurrected the careers for several coaches as well as helped some younger coaches into DC and HC jobs with other programs. As Mike said, he'll take a year to mentor under a proven winner to "relearn, rethink and reteach."
Fortunately for Mike, he can afford to take a year off (I'm assuming the role as a consultant I unpaid by Bama), but the time under Saban will be extremely tough from what I've heard about him. I hope working for Saban will kick start Mike's career and he gets another shot at being a DC or even HC somewhere down the line.

As I recall Mike will get about $25K/month for about 18 months after he got fired. I would imagine this would be forfeited/terminate if he is hired elsewhere.

I would also add that most here wanted Venables to stay and were pissed that Mike came back. Yes some were calling for Venables to be let go before Mike came back because the defense was still not at the level it should have been but not many here would have traded Brent for Mike.
I wish Mike Stoops the best. He is a part of our OU history. I do the same for any former Oklahoma coach. Why kick them when they're down?

Thats simply not true, not everyone was and is glad Venables left. Some here didn't even want Mike to be fired this season, all facts. Most everyone got what they wanted, Venables is gone for those that wanted it and now so is Mike for those that wanted that to happen. Not sure why any of it matters to a sniveling whorn though?
That's not typically how it works. If he is paid less, as he no doubt will be, then OU will be responsible for the difference. One example is the Diaco thing; OU paid him $50ish K and Nebraska paid the difference between that and his contract termination agreement. Another great example is Charlie Weiss. He was drawing checks from three different schools at one point.

Saban's defense looked pretty average their last three games... Mike didn't get stupid, but maybe he got lazy on the recruiting trail. I don't know. What I do know is that Alabama didn't look much better than us when they played a high-powered offense, even with all that 4 and 5 star talent.
I expect him to help them.

You may be right, V-man, but I’ll be very surprised if Mike Stoops doesn’t get more from this deal than Alabama. Look for Stoops to land somewhere next season that will be a better fit for him than Oklahoma or Alabama. If he helps Alabama, good for him. My question for Stoops is can he coach players effectively? Maybe sitting in a room in Alabama strategizing may be great for him but I question his on field skills simply based on his last round at OU.

I think you’re using the wrong word in ‘many’. There were ‘some’ but not many. In fact I’d say it was about a 50/50 Split. In all fairness, there was some exuberance displayed by the board upon MS being named as DC. But much like 67 has stated, the board was not happy w the defenses performances under Venables... and rightly so. There were some brutal losses that was difficult at best.
Baylor & Aggie come to my mind.
I even went as far as posting , “ What if he doesn’t work out? Will Bob actually fire his brother?”
