A.... make the final 4 and lose to Alabama ... final record is 12-2.

B.... Go to the Sugar Bowl and beat Georgia.... final record is 13-1.

I would select "B". You see, after we beat Georgia I would bitch all year about how "if we had played Alabama we would have won."

What is your selection?

A. Can't win if you are not there. Lose, get better and try again. All these fans online saying OU got their butts handed to him are just sour their team cannot make it. That may be one of Bama's best teams ever but it most certainly was not one of OU's best teams ever, Offensive stats maybe but that is one of if not the worst OU defenses I have ever seen, at least one that went Bowling anyway. Keep trying for the playoffs every year is the goal as it should be. Riley knows what it takes to win it, he has seen it and I think he at least will try and fix the problem to get us there again. I would also like to see the Offensive Line improve the Run Blocking. When we need it most its nonexistent.

My worry is that Riley may hire a DC but the new DC may not get to hand pick his own guys. He has mentioned recently that he does not see all that many changes to the Defensive Staff not wholesale anyway. Would that be a negative to a potential DC where he just says No Thanks because of that? I don't know.

Any other time I would select option "A". Given the state of the defense this year, I was hopeful for option "B" and revenge for last year's loss.

The way Georgia took it to Bama for most of that game I doubt we would have fared any better that we did vs bama. Not with the defense we have.
Riley to recruits, son come to OU and help us win a Playoff Game and a Natty vs Son come to OU so we can win a Sugar Bowl.

Not sure. Not making it to the dance and revenging a loss provides motivation for OU. Losing Heisman and OL honors to OU provided quite a bit of motivation for Bama. Son, we got robbed. Won the Sugar but should have made it to the dance. Come get us to the dance next year.

I just think having been there especially 3 times might make a recruit or recruits more likely to come and want to be a part of getting us over the hump. Telling them we were robbed sounds more whiny or sour grapes to me but with these entitled kids today it may fly.

Bama didn't need the extra motivation, hands down a better team top to bottom, better Coached as well. Had Tua won the Heisman it would have been the same, we would lose that game 10/10 times even if played in Norman.

Agree. Hands down better team. It was going to be an up hill struggle for us to win. It went exactly as expected. Having failed 6 times this century for a natty, I would rather say look what we're building.

But every program can say that, look what we are building. OU has been there more than any other team other than Clemson and Bama. Bama all 5 times, Clemson 4 and OU 3, not a bad place to be for OU. Last year we got very very close to being in the title game, we may have lost but who knows. The other 2 times we were just outmanned, recruiting can fix that and a good Defense will go a long way toward that goal. What Bama and Clemson are doing is not Rocket Science its Coaches going out and getting the talent and developing that talent into studs, OU can do it recruiting has already improved since Bob left. I believe Bob and his staff got lazy and fat and it reared its ugly head this year especially. Take away the two transfer QB's we had, Baker and Kyler and OMG how bad could it have been?
Having been to the dance 3 times already OU should be able to get just about anybody they want recruiting wise. Riley may be right, we are close but not quite there yet and he has a very big decision to make in fixing the main problem, the Defense. May just be the biggest decision he will ever make regarding his future. I hope he makes the right one.

I think playing in a playoff they cried to get in is revenge enough :D. I hate Texas but if Texas won it would be even funnier. Georgia players were tweeting all Saturday about how the best 4 teams weren’t in. In the south they obviously can’t count passed 1 loss.

True. I mean we could be Michigan. By that I mean have a high profile coach, program, and team and still underachieve. Teams would kill to even make the playoff.
