Running the table?

Personally I just don't see us escaping the season without at least 2 losses. There is no doubt NU came to play and gave the Sooners its best shot but the offense looked very sluggish throughout most of the game. Even though the D bent at times they came up with a few really big plays that saved this game. I think what NU exposed was that Rattler and company aren't near as good as advertised. Other teams will learn from this game and unless the offensive line does a better job of protecting the QB we are going to see more sluggish games from the offense like this. I really think it is going to be up to the D to win down the stretch against the better teams in the conference as I am not confident in the offense being able to outscore them like we have seen in the past.

This weekend will be a test as I believe WV is a better team than NU as I also believe KSU, Tx, and ISU are all games we could lose at this point. None of those games are ones that can be penciled in as wins. What do you all think? Either way I will watch every game to the end as I always do and expand on my vocabulary during them.

It's frustrating and certainly hard to see this team winning out, but personally I think all the parts are there. Something isn't clicking though. The defense is seemingly settling in and will need to be better every week as the offense finds its identity. The explosive plays have just not been there. However they have provided some efficient, methodical drives in important situations. The line is getting better and I think we'll need to establish the run going forward to assist the passing game as Rattler doesn't appear confident in early reads and making quick passes.

If I had the choice of fixing one thing, it would be our pass coverage. If the Sooners could cover as well as the Huskers did us, we might have barely covered the point spread. But no... once again, the Sooners make a mediocre QB look like a star. I don't see it being corrected any time soon. The Sooners are in the top 1, 2, 3 or maybe even 4 of the Big 12. That's about it. I doubt they will win out. Like you @Soonerborn59, I'll watch every snap to the end.

Rattle has not found his rhythm yet. He is not seeing his best options through his reads. He is throwing into triple coverage when he has a wide open receiver in other parts of the field. The same thing happened last year and we all know how that ended. I think some of the lag is on Riley. He called a few head scratcher plays last week. I'm still optimistic that we will find the key to sync this offense. The D is stepping up. Every Nebraska fans that I spoke to said Martinez was playing far better than anyone expected. We will see progress as we get into the conference schedule. Step by Step.

I hope we run well and set up the pass tomorrow obviously. Rattler must be able to see what the Defense is giving quickly and exploit it to get 5 yards and beyond per play.
If he does something stupid early I hope Linc sits him down for a play or two and gets him dialed in (unless it’s obviously an Oline issue)

One week at a time and end September undefeated. BOOMER !

Rattler will be as good as his protection, running game and young receivers allow.
So far, it's not that good.
Wait a second; I get the chicken or egg first argument here. But overall the protection easily been enough. I do agree the WR's appear to have issues getting open. But the decision making and inability to progress through reads by Rattler had been painful. Also Riley needs to get the H-back and TE's involved STAT to remove linebackers from the equation. IMO the offensive issues are QB and play calling related.

Could not agree more. OL is doing their job as well as can be expected. Rattler threw into triple coverage vs Corn when he had open receivers. Stogner on short crossing route was completely overlooked as was the H-Back. We need to mix it up more. Grey is very elusive if he can get a couple of steps past the line of scrimmage.

I agree and I'm not sure the solution? I'm not sure why we always look lost in coverage. It's almost as if some of our players have no sense of anticipation. I saw our starting free safety allow a 20 yard reception right in front of him for a 1st down without even contesting the throw, he just wanted to wrap the guy up. Some of them act like completions by the other team are just a given and part of the game plan.

I heard it mentioned that we may be sand-bagging a bit on offense as our receivers have only run 4 or so routes. I remember Stoops doing this prior to the Texas game. We would play vanilla on offense throughout non-conference if we were confident our defense could hold. Unsure how legitimate this hypothesis is, but seems plausible.

Maybe…I thought Royal did this against OU a few times during the years his teams went 12-1 (1958-1970).
It seemed to me that OU would enter the game thinking it could win, while Texas entered the game KNOWING it would win.
I guess we will find out if Riley is using the same strategy this season.
