Garry Patterson describing the 4-2-5
After reading through this, I came away with 2 conclusions.
1. We really need to run the 4-2-5. I cannot think of a better system to use against the spread. This system allows one side of the secondary to run zone the other to play man. It also allows for each member of the 5 man spoke to move independently of the other. 3 Safeties and 2 corners.
2. Gary Patterson is a NASA Engineer compared to Mike Stoops. Gary has been running the same system from the days he was at New Mexico as the DC. He has mastered the system and knows exactly how to recruit for it.
He implemented this system at NMU because of the lack of talent in the secondary. I am not sure if he came up with the system but he was at least smart enough to find a system that helped bolster a secondary that was not as talented athletically as the offenses they were playing.
If only Mike would read this.
