They are huge and I would guess that we won't have much success between the tackles. Yes our O-line is very good, but I still don't think we'll win there. I think we'll have success on the edges with jet sweeps, quick throws and crossing routes. I would expect a game plan similar to Ohio State last year. We used a lot of plays that caused the LB's to be confused on their keys. It was a brilliant game plan. Last year I studied what we did to OSU in Columbus and implemented much of it with my team and it worked really well. It really gets the LB's thinking, not trusting their eyes, and being slow to react. Like Bama, OSU had a very dominant front four, but we constantly kept them off-balance.
I saw Bama misaligned a lot last night, kind of like ours under FUMS, and while they'll have a month to prepare I really think Riley will have some wrinkles for him. Remember what Patterson said after we killed them this year - "they ran stuff they haven't run all year." TCU plays assignment football on D, but their D was confused due to our play design. Same thing happened to OSU in Columbus.
Bama's D is set up to stop the LSU 8th grade offenses of the SEC, and while they are very good (don't read this and bash me for saying they play bad D), Georgia demonstrated how they can be attacked. Our O-line is better than Georgia and Kyler is far better than Georgia's QB, so the Bama D is flawed and can be vulnerable to what we do. I know all about our deficiencies on D, just pointing out my observations of the Bama D from a coaching perspective.
Bama made adjustments at halftime for Georgia and they worked, just like Georgia did to us last year, so the key will be for Riley to have a different, but equally effective script for the 3rd quarter to give us a shot to win.
